A distressing incident occurred Thursday evening in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, an industrial city, when a 12-year-old boy was attacked by two pet dogs. The child was with his younger sister, heading to a grocery store, when two unleashed dogs – a German Shepherd and a Labrador – from a nearby house, suddenly lunged at him.
The boy sustained serious injuries to his knee and thigh, requiring six stitches. He is currently hospitalized but reportedly in stable condition.
Attack Witnessed by Sister, Bystanders Remain Passive
The incident took place in City Colony, Tapukada Road, Bhiwadi. The injured boy, Aditya Sharma, a seventh-grader, resides in a nearby colony. Around 5:30 PM Thursday, he and his 8-year-old sister were going to a nearby shop to buy biscuits. As they passed house number 23, two large, unleashed dogs attacked Aditya. Before he could react, one dog bit his leg.
His sister screamed, but onlookers remained passive. A young man eventually intervened, using a stick to drive the dogs away, freeing Aditya.
Hospitalized, Receives Anti-Rabies Injection
By the time Aditya's family arrived, he had lost considerable blood. He was immediately admitted to the Bhiwadi Government Community Health Center, where his wounds were cleaned, stitched (six stitches), and he received an anti-rabies injection. Doctors reported the bites were deep, but timely treatment prevented a major infection. The child remains under observation.
Negligent Pet Owner, Case Filed
The dogs belong to Amit Singh, a property dealer residing in the same house. Neighbors allege he frequently leaves the dogs unleashed, causing fear and previous incidents of near-misses. Aditya's father, Ramesh Sharma, filed a complaint at the Tapukada police station. Charges against the owner include negligence, endangering public safety, and causing intentional injury.
Incident Caught on CCTV, Child Welfare Commission Takes Notice
The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage from a nearby shop. The footage clearly shows the dogs running towards Aditya, knocking him down and biting him. The Rajasthan Child Protection Commission has taken cognizance of the matter and requested a report from the district administration. Bhiwadi Nagar Parishad regulations mandate leashes and mouth guards for dogs outside the home. However, non-compliance puts the public at risk.
