71st National Film Awards: Mohanlal Honored with Dadasaheb Phalke; Shah Rukh Khan & Rani Mukerji Win Best Actor/Actress

This day marked a historic moment for the Indian cinema industry as the 71st National Film Awards (National Film Awards 2025) ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu honored the winners at this grand event.

Entertainment News: Legends and stars of Indian cinema were honored at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. On this occasion, South superstar Mohanlal was bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award by the Government of India for his extraordinary contribution to cinema. Shah Rukh Khan received the National Award for Best Actor for the first time in his 33-year career for the film 'Jawan'. 

This honor was also bestowed upon Vikrant Massey for his film '12th Fail'. Meanwhile, Rani Mukerji received the Best Actress award for the film 'Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway'. President Droupadi Murmu felicitated all the winners. Filmmaker Karan Johar was also present at the ceremony on this special occasion with his film 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'.

Shah Rukh Khan Wins First National Award in 33 Years

This was a truly special moment in the career of Shah Rukh Khan, often referred to as Bollywood's King Khan. For the first time in his 33-year journey, he received the National Award for Best Actor. Shah Rukh was honored for his 2023 blockbuster film 'Jawan'. His powerful performance captivated both the audience and the jury—.

Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Vikrant Massey also received the National Award for Best Actor this time. Vikrant's film '12th Fail', an inspirational story based on real events, made its mark not only at the box office but also with critics. Notably, the Best Actor award was jointly presented to both actors this year.

Mohanlal Receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award

This ceremony was also very special for renowned Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji. For the first time in her long career, she won the National Award for Best Actress. Rani received this honor for her film 'Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway'. In the film, she portrayed the struggles and emotions of a mother with great sensitivity on screen.

This year, Indian cinema's highest honor, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, was presented to South Indian superstar Mohanlal. With a career spanning over four decades, Mohanlal has carved a unique identity with his brilliant acting prowess in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films. His recognition symbolizes the richness and diversity of Indian cinema.

Bollywood director and producer Karan Johar's film 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' received the Best Popular Film award. The film thoroughly entertained audiences with its family-friendly entertainment and the powerful performances of its star cast. This year, the competition for the 71st National Film Awards was extremely tough. 332 entries for feature films and 115 entries for non-feature films received nominations. Films released between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023, were eligible for consideration.
