Abu Azmi Alleges Voter List Manipulation in Maharashtra, Demands Audit

SP Leader Abu Azmi Alleges Voter List Manipulation in Maharashtra. He questions the impartiality of the Election Commission, demanding an immediate audit and accountability.

Maharashtra: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Abu Azmi has made a significant claim regarding the voter list in Maharashtra. Accusing the Election Commission of bias, he stated that the voter list was manipulated to benefit the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Azmi has demanded a fair investigation and audit of the voter list.

Serious Allegations of Voter List Irregularities

Abu Azmi, who is also the president of the SP's Maharashtra unit, said that in the Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar Assembly constituency, the names of valid voters were added to the list six months before the election. However, they were later removed, and names of people who were not residents of the area were added in their place. He said this is a direct conspiracy against democracy.

Accusation of Bias Towards BJP

Azmi also accused the Election Commission of showing favoritism towards the BJP. He said that questions have been raised about the impartiality of the commission and that this is dangerous for the democratic system. He stated that the commission should play its role in a fair and transparent manner so that the general public maintains its trust in it.

Claim of Impact on Election Results

Azmi stated that in the 2024 assembly elections, several senior leaders lost only because of this manipulation. He cited the example of former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat, claiming that it was all part of a well-planned conspiracy. He said that if the voter list had been correct, the results might have been different.

Questions on the Functioning of the Election Commission

Azmi said that the Election Commission needs to reconsider its working style. He said, "If people lose faith in an institution like the Election Commission, democracy will be weakened." He called on people to take to the streets against the functioning of the commission if necessary.

Demand to Fix Accountability

Abu Azmi spoke about fixing accountability in this entire matter. He said that if the voter list has been deliberately tampered with, strict action should be taken against the officers and employees involved. He said that it is extremely important to prevent such irregularities in order to maintain the integrity of the election process.

Azmi's Controversial Statement on Udaipur Murder Case

Earlier, Abu Azmi was also in the news regarding the 2022 Udaipur beheading case. He had described the incident as a "reaction" to the insulting remarks made against Prophet Muhammad. His statement came on the release of the film "Udaipur Files." This film is based on the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal.

Background of Kanhaiya Lal Murder Case

Notably, in June 2022, tailor Kanhaiya Lal was murdered in his shop in Udaipur by two people. It is alleged that he had shared a post on social media in support of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. This incident had created a sensation throughout the country and was described as a terrorist conspiracy.
