Adani Power Secures 25-Year Contract for 2,400 MW Thermal Power Plant in Bihar

Adani Power has secured a 25-year power supply contract from the Bihar government for a 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur district. This project will involve an investment of approximately ₹53,000 crore and is expected to create 12,000 jobs during construction and 3,000 during operation.

Adani Power Limited has announced that it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) for a 25-year power supply agreement from Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL). This agreement is for the 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power project to be established in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur district. The project, with an estimated cost of about $3 billion, will supply electricity to the discom companies of North and South Bihar. The company states that this plant will accelerate the state's industrialization and economic growth by providing affordable and stable power.

2400 MW Capacity Power Project

The company has informed that a 2,400 MW Greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal power plant will be established in Pirpainti, Bihar. This plant will have a total of three units, each with a capacity of 800 MW. The project will supply power to both the North and South Bihar distribution companies, including North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL).

New Employment Opportunities

Adani Power has stated that this project will generate large-scale employment in the state. Approximately 10,000 to 12,000 people will be employed during the construction phase, while around 3,000 people will get permanent employment during the operational phase. The company believes that this project will boost Bihar's economy and industrialization.

CEO Comments

Adani Power CEO S. B. Khayaliya stated that as India's largest private sector thermal power producer, the company has consistently demonstrated reliable capacity and performance. He mentioned that this ultra-supercritical and high-efficiency power plant in Bihar will set new benchmarks in operational excellence and stability. The plant will provide affordable and continuous electricity to the people of Bihar, significantly contributing to the state's industrialization and economic development.

Investment of ₹53,000 Crore

This project will be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. Adani Power will undertake the construction, financing, ownership, and operation of the plant itself. The company estimates that the project will attract an investment of around $3 billion, approximately ₹53,000 crore. This is considered one of the largest power projects in Bihar to date.

Bihar has long faced the challenge of balancing increasing power demand with supply. The commencement of this project is expected to provide significant relief to the state. The energy generated by the power plant will be supplied to both North and South Bihar, ensuring uninterrupted electricity for domestic consumers and industries.

Stock Market Activity

Amidst this announcement, Adani Power's shares registered a slight decline. On Friday, the company's stock closed at ₹587.40, down by 1.27 percent. However, since the beginning of the year 2025, the company's shares have shown a gain of 12 percent. Investors are now keenly observing the progress of this project.
