UP Energy Minister AK Sharma Accuses Opposition of Spreading Fake News, Highlights Power Sector Achievements

UP's Energy Minister AK Sharma has bly responded to the opposition, accusing them of misleading the public with fake videos, while highlighting the Yogi government's achievements in the power sector as historic.

AK Sharma: Politics surrounding the electricity system in Uttar Pradesh has intensified these days. While the Congress and Samajwadi Party are continuously targeting the government over the electricity crisis in the state, UP's Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma has launched a sharp attack on the opposition. He has accused opposition parties of misleading the public through fake videos and misleading propaganda.

On Tuesday, through a detailed post on his official social media handle, AK Sharma presented an account of the historic improvements made in the power system in UP and showed the opposition the mirror. He said, "If the Congress and SP had shown even a little concern for the electricity system during their rule, we would not have inherited such a dilapidated system."

'Stop Misleading with Fake Videos'

The Energy Minister said that the opposition is constantly viralizing videos on social media that have no connection to the truth. He cited videos from a hospital in Ballia, Mathura, and Sultanpur, saying that these videos were found to be misleading and their purpose was only to create confusion among the public. He informed that the government took prompt action on the Sultanpur incident, suspending the technical staff and resolving the problem.

Historic Achievements of the Government

AK Sharma said in the post that the BJP government has not only significantly increased electricity production and supply since 2017 but has also made historic progress in the field of infrastructure. Comparing the figures with the opposition, he said:

  • The average peak demand during 2012-17 was 13,000 MW, while in the last three years it has increased to 30,000 MW.
  • Compared to 2017, today UP has become the state supplying the most electricity in the country.
  • The number of electricity consumers has more than doubled.
  • More than 1.50 lakh hamlets have been electrified.
  • In 2017, UP's own maximum production was 5160 MW, which has increased to 9120 MW in 2025.
  • Electricity availability from all sources has increased from 11803 MW to 20038 MW.
  • The transmission capacity has increased from 39000 MVA to 2 lakh MVA.

Tremendous Progress in Distribution Too

The Energy Minister said that in the last three years, 1.59 lakh kilometers of dilapidated wires have been replaced, and 29 lakh old poles have been replaced with new poles. Now electricity is being supplied to every village, every city, and every shop. He said, "When electricity used to come once in 10 days during your rule, it used to become news, today even a one-hour power cut makes headlines. This is proof of our progress."

Commitment of Modi-Yogi Government

AK Sharma, describing the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath as historic, said that the state government considers the consumer as 'God' and does not compromise in serving them. He said, "Our competition is with ourselves. Our resolve is to provide a better system tomorrow than today's system."

Sarcasm on the Opposition

At the end of the post, the Energy Minister taunted the opposition, saying, "Whenever you pick up a mirror, look first, then show it." He also said that the dark age of the opposition is now over, now Uttar Pradesh is moving towards light.
