E-commerce giant Amazon is once again gearing up for large-scale layoffs after three years. The company will lay off over 30,000 corporate employees, with the process commencing on Tuesday. These layoffs will impact the HR, Devices, and Services departments, aiming to streamline the organizational structure and make room for AI-driven transformations.
Amazon Layoff: The world's largest e-commerce company, Amazon, has announced layoffs for over 30,000 corporate employees. The company has informed employees via email, and the process is set to begin on Tuesday. This marks the largest round of layoffs since the COVID pandemic, affecting departments such as HR, Devices, Services, and Amazon Web Services. CEO Andy Jassy stated that this step is being taken to reduce increasing bureaucracy and boost the utilization of AI technology.
Layoffs Strike Again After Three Years
Amazon had also laid off a significant number of employees in 2022, with approximately 27,000 individuals losing their jobs at that time. Now, in 2025, the company is undertaking a similar measure once again. While the 30,000 affected employees represent a smaller portion of Amazon's overall workforce, which totals around 1.55 million employees, it is a substantial figure from the corporate staff's perspective. With approximately 350,000 corporate employees, these layoffs mean that nearly 10% of corporate jobs will be impacted this time.
Which Departments Will Be Affected by Layoffs?
According to sources, this round of layoffs will target key departments such as HR, Devices and Services, and Amazon Web Services. As part of the company's strategy, the process of reducing staff in these departments has already commenced. Some experienced and senior employees may also be included in this round of layoffs.
Sources familiar with the matter indicated that employees have been receiving layoff notifications via email since Tuesday morning. Those whose jobs are at risk will also be sent formal notices in the coming days.
Increased Bureaucracy in the Company, Managers to Be Reduced

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy had stated some time ago that bureaucracy within the company had grown significantly. He noted that decision-making was delayed, and work efficiency was being impacted due to multiple layers. Therefore, the focus will now be on reducing management layers.
For this purpose, the company recently launched a feedback line, where suggestions and feedback were solicited from employees. It is reported that over 1,500 responses were received through this line, many of which highlighted unnecessary management layers and redundant positions within the organization. Following this, the company decided to implement cuts at the management level as well.
AI Will Transform Work Methods
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy had indicated in June that the company is set to increase its use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across several departments. This could directly impact the number of employees.
The company is now working towards automating many processes by adopting AI-based tools and systems. This means that more work will be accomplished with fewer people in the future. There are many teams within the company whose work can be simplified with AI technology. In such a scenario, the need for employees will naturally decrease.
Ongoing Layoffs
In recent months, Amazon has also carried out several smaller-scale layoffs. The company gradually cut staff in departments such as Devices, Communications, and Podcasting. This new round of layoffs is considered part of that transformation process, through which the company aims to become more agile and technology-driven.
According to reports, the company is also under pressure to increase long-term investments. In this context, reducing the number of employees is its most straightforward option for cost reduction.
Rising Trend of Layoffs in 2025
According to data from a website tracking layoffs, approximately 98,000 people have lost their jobs since the beginning of 2025. These layoffs have occurred across approximately 216 companies worldwide. If we look at the 2024 figures, about 153,000 people were laid off that year.
Amazon's layoffs are part of this broader trend, where major tech companies are reducing their workforce due to cost-cutting measures and the adoption of AI technology. Within the company, this is being termed "restructuring" or transformation, but its impact will be felt by thousands of families.
