Ambani Family Plans Investment in Four to Five Sectors in West Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the Ambani family is preparing to invest in four to five sectors in the state, with a Reliance Group team set to assess potential projects.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has said that the Ambani family is preparing to invest in four to five sectors in the state. According to Adhikari, a large Reliance Group team will soon visit West Bengal to assess the potential for various projects.

Suvendu Adhikari met Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant Ambani in Mumbai in September. The meeting was held at the Ambani family’s residence in Mumbai. Adhikari later said that the discussions covered industrial expansion and employment opportunities in West Bengal.

According to the Chief Minister, the Ambani family has assured investment in four to five sectors in West Bengal. He also said that a large Reliance team would visit the state and begin further work on potential projects.

The available reports do not disclose the final investment amount, detailed timeline or final approvals for all the proposed projects. At present, they therefore remain investment possibilities and proposed projects.

Reliance Group has not yet officially provided a detailed list of all sectors under consideration for investment in West Bengal. The state government, however, is focusing on sectors including healthcare, manufacturing, digital infrastructure and other industrial areas.

According to a report by The Telegraph, Reliance is potentially examining the feasibility of several projects in West Bengal, including a cable landing station in Digha, a data centre in Rajarhat and a food park in North Bengal. Further examination and assessment will be required for these projects.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has made increasing industrial investment in the state one of his government’s priorities. He has invited industrialists to invest in West Bengal and said the government would provide necessary support to investors.

During an event in September, Adhikari said his government was creating an “industry-friendly” environment in the state. He also spoke about eliminating alleged syndicates, extortion and obstacles to business to build confidence among investors.

The government aims to attract large industrial groups as well as national and international companies to establish new projects in West Bengal.

Providing land for industrial projects is also an important part of the state government’s investment strategy. In September, Adhikari said the government was working to provide land to 33 companies for setting up projects before Durga Puja.

According to the Chief Minister, the government is moving ahead with the process of providing land and other facilities after examining investors’ credentials and financial credibility.

The stated objective is to organise land availability, financial commitments and environmental aspects for industrial projects in advance.

Amid efforts to attract investment to West Bengal, proposed projects by the Adani Group are also on the state government’s agenda. According to reports, the Adani Group is working on a plan to develop a 2,000-bed multi-speciality hospital in New Town.

Plans related to the Tajpur deep-sea port have also been discussed. Adhikari said representatives of the Adani Group had held discussions on opportunities related to ports and logistics in the state.

The state government is also focusing on developing infrastructure linked to Haldia, Kulpi and Kolkata ports to develop West Bengal as a major shipping and logistics hub.

The West Bengal government’s investment strategy is not limited to traditional industries. The Chief Minister has also referred to investment opportunities in defence, data centres, healthcare and manufacturing.

Information has also emerged about Larsen & Toubro’s plan for investment related to a large data centre in the state and Amul’s search for land for an ice cream plant in North and South Bengal.

The state government has also shown interest in a Defence Research and Development Organisation, or DRDO, project at Junput in East Midnapore. Adhikari said his government had responded to a proposal submitted during the previous government.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has linked the meeting with the Ambani family to industrial expansion and employment opportunities in West Bengal. He has said that large investments could support the state’s economy and create new employment opportunities for young people.

The state government’s broader argument is that large industrial investments could increase activity in production, logistics, healthcare, digital services and other sectors. This could help strengthen the state’s revenue base and support higher spending on education, healthcare and infrastructure.

However, the actual economic impact of any proposed investment will become clear only after projects are finalised, capital is invested, and construction and operations begin.

The immediate next step is the Reliance Group team’s visit to West Bengal and its assessment of potential projects. According to the Chief Minister, the group is moving forward with investment possibilities across four to five sectors.

If the proposed projects receive final approval and reach the investment stage, they could affect West Bengal’s industrial and employment landscape. However, the total investment amount and final list of all projects have not yet been made public.

The discussions with the Ambani family come as the West Bengal government is increasing engagement with several corporate groups to attract large investments to the state. The potential Reliance plans, along with healthcare and other infrastructure projects involving the Adani Group, are part of the state’s broader industrial expansion efforts.
