India's 17-year-old rising squash star Anahat Singh has once again demonstrated her brilliant game, securing a significant victory. She has advanced to the semifinals of the Canada Women's Open Squash Tournament by defeating Belgium's defending champion and second seed, Tinne Gilis.
Sports News: India's 17-year-old young squash player Anahat Singh delivered an outstanding performance at the Canada Women's Open Squash Tournament, securing the biggest win of her career to date. Anahat defeated Belgium's defending champion and second seed, Tinne Gilis, in straight games (3-0) to reach the semifinals. With this victory, Anahat has defeated a world top-10 player for the first time.
This match was the quarterfinal of the PSA Tour Silver Level tournament being played in Toronto, where Anahat defeated Gilis 12-10, 11-9, 11-9 in an exciting 36-minute encounter. The Indian teenager, ranked 43rd in the world, appeared confident from the outset and displayed excellent composure at crucial moments in every game.

Biggest Win of Career
For Delhi-native Anahat, this victory is not just the biggest moment of her career, but also proof that she is now ready to challenge top players globally. Earlier, in the pre-quarterfinals, she had defeated France's world number 20, Melissa Alves, to secure her spot in the quarterfinals. Defeating two highly-ranked players consecutively indicates that Indian talent is now making its mark on the global stage.
After the match, Anahat said, "I am extremely excited. Tinne Gilis is in the top 10, and this is the first time I have defeated such a highly-ranked player. My performance in this tournament has been very good so far. I spoke to my coach this morning, and he told me that if I play like I did in previous matches, I can beat anyone. I just went onto the court with the intention of giving my best, and I'm happy my plan succeeded."
Big Match in Semifinals
Now, in the semifinals, Anahat will face England's world number 10 and fourth seed, Gina Kennedy. Kennedy is an experienced player who has won several international titles. However, given Anahat's current form in this tournament, another major upset is expected from her.
In Indian squash, several young talents have emerged in recent years, and Anahat Singh has become one of the most talked-about names among them. She displayed a game far more mature than her age at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Now, this performance on the PSA circuit could further elevate her world ranking.
