Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal has pledged to dedicate 75% of his approximately ₹43,500 crore wealth to social causes and public welfare, with a focus on children’s education, nutrition and healthcare, women’s empowerment, and employment opportunities for young people.
Business Journey Began With Scrap Trading
Anil Agarwal began his business journey with a small-scale scrap trading operation after moving from Patna, Bihar. Over time, he expanded his business and laid the foundation for Vedanta, a global business group.
Agarwal is now among India’s prominent industrialists, with his wealth estimated at approximately ₹43,500 crore. Alongside his financial success, he has focused on using a substantial portion of his wealth for social change. He has pledged 75% of his wealth to social causes and public welfare.
Agarwal has maintained that wealth generated through business should not belong solely to a family. He has said that a substantial portion of wealth should reach sections of society that need it most.
Focus on Children’s Education and Nutrition
Children’s education, nutrition and healthcare have been among the key priorities of Agarwal’s philanthropic work. He reiterated his commitment in January 2026 following the death of his son, Agnivesh Agarwal.
At the time, he referred to a major family dream that no child in the country should go to bed hungry and that no child’s education should be halted because of financial hardship. In line with this approach, a substantial portion of his wealth has been proposed for social objectives involving children.
According to Agarwal, investment in children’s early years is important for strengthening the future of society. Better nutrition and education affect children’s development as well as their future opportunities.
Women’s Empowerment and Employment Included
Agarwal’s proposed philanthropic initiative is not limited to children. It also includes a focus on making women self-reliant and creating opportunities for young people to obtain dignified employment.
Providing women with skill training and opportunities for self-reliance is an important part of his social work. Creating employment opportunities for young people is also included in his broader public welfare objectives. He believes that strengthening women and young people economically is necessary for social development.
Nand Ghar Focuses on Anganwadi Modernisation
The Nand Ghar project is among Agarwal’s social initiatives. Its objective is to equip Anganwadi centres across the country with modern facilities. The centres work towards providing children with better early education and nutrition.
The Nand Ghar initiative also focuses on providing women with opportunities for skill development and self-reliance. Through the same platform, the initiative aims to address several social issues involving children and women.
75% Wealth Pledged for Social Causes
Agarwal has reiterated his pledge to dedicate 75% of his wealth to social causes at a time when he is linking the success of his business journey with social responsibility. For him, wealth is not only a personal achievement but also a means of bringing about social change.
His philanthropic agenda covers children’s education and nutrition, women’s empowerment and employment for young people. The pledge reflects the view that the legacy of substantial wealth can involve not only leaving money for a family but also laying the foundation for long-term social change.
