Asia Cup 2025 concluded amidst controversy. The Indian team became champions, but they refused to accept the trophy from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and boycotted the presentation ceremony.

Sports News: The Asia Cup 2025 final match was more in the news for its controversies than for its game. The Indian cricket team refused to accept the trophy from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, which sparked a major controversy during the presentation ceremony. On this occasion, the Indian team celebrated becoming champions without taking the trophy. Following this action, former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali criticized the Indian team and expressed his support for Naqvi.

Why Did India Boycott the Presentation Ceremony?

In the Asia Cup 2025 final, the Indian team delivered a spectacular performance and clinched the championship title. However, as it was time to present the trophy, the Indian team refused to accept it from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. According to reports, Naqvi took back the trophy, and the Indian team celebrated their victory without it.

The Indian team captain stated in the post-match press conference, "It is not necessary for the winning team to take the trophy. Our team's performance itself is proof of our victory. Being called champions is more important than the trophy." The presentation ceremony was delayed by an hour, but ultimately India refused to accept the trophy.

What Did Basit Ali Say?

Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali, in a conversation with ARY News TV, said, "India is the number-1 team, but their actions were third-rate. Mohsin Naqvi was supposed to present the trophy. If India refused to accept it, their credibility in the eyes of the world would be questioned. The trophy should not have been presented." He also added that the team's stubborn attitude was not appropriate.

Basit Ali gave an example, stating, "Suppose if this were an ICC event and the Pakistani team refused to accept the trophy from Jay Shah, then Pakistan would have faced criticism. Similarly, India's move was third-rate. This Asia Cup 2025 tournament remained in discussion due to several controversies. On the field, there were debates over rules and umpiring in many matches, while off the field, questions were raised about the teams' behavior and the presentation."
