Asia Cup 2025: Jaiswal, Gill, and Sudharsan in Contention for India Squad

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Sai Sudharsan are in the running for selection in India's Asia Cup team, which is likely to be announced in the third week of August.

Sports News: Following the recent conclusion of the Test series between India and England, which ended in a 2-2 draw, the Indian cricket team's sights are now set on the Asia Cup 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively preparing for this highly anticipated T20 tournament. The board is thoroughly considering players' fitness, form, and selection. In particular, emerging stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Sai Sudharsan are almost certain to secure a place in the team.

Team Announcement in August

According to BCCI sources, the Indian team for the Asia Cup will be announced in the third week of August. Sources have indicated that Yashasvi, Gill, and Sai Sudharsan are highly likely to be included in the team. Even though Jaiswal and Gill haven't played many T20 matches recently, they have had a month-long break after the Test series against England, which has allowed them to look completely fresh and fit.

Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, who have been in excellent form recently, are also b contenders for selection. However, a senior BCCI official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that with a five-week break and no cricket taking place, Yashasvi, Gill, and Sai Sudharsan are likely to be included in the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup. A total of 6 T20 matches will be played during the Asia Cup if the team reaches the final, which will not put too much burden on the players.

Pace Bowling a Concern

While there are positive signs regarding the selection in the batting order, the pace bowling department has become a cause for concern for the BCCI. The availability of key bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj is not yet clear. The board is paying attention to the workload management of both players and their fitness reports will be evaluated before the selection.

The BCCI's strategy is not limited to the Asia Cup. The team is being structured with the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held later this year, also in mind. The Asia Cup, to be played on UAE pitches, will serve as a mini World Cup trial for the players. Keeping this in mind, technically sound batsmen like Yashasvi, Gill, and Sai Sudharsan may be given a chance in the top order.

If India reaches the Asia Cup final on September 28, the Test series against the West Indies is scheduled to begin just a few days later. The first Test match will be played in Ahmedabad on October 2. In such a situation, the BCCI will have to be cautious about the players' breaks, fitness, and workload.
