Ayodhya: Monsoon rains have once again caused waterlogging in several colonies and low-lying areas of the city. Roads have been inundated, affecting movement, while the rising water level of the Saryu River has moved close to the danger mark, raising concern in riverside and low-lying areas.
Continuous rainfall has led to water accumulation on several roads across the city. Drainage systems in some colonies have been affected, allowing rainwater to enter lanes. In some places, residents have faced difficulty leaving their homes. The problem has been more pronounced in areas where roads are already at a lower level.
The impact of the rainfall in Ayodhya has also extended to areas along the Saryu River. With the river's water level rising, administrative monitoring has increased in riverside areas. During earlier periods of continuous rainfall, the Saryu water level in Ayodhya had come extremely close to the danger mark. In July, the river was recorded at just 52 centimetres below the danger mark, following which an alert was increased in riverside areas.
Water levels in the Saryu and Ghaghra rivers have continued to fluctuate in August. A report dated August 18 stated that the Saryu water level in the Ayodhya area had risen above the danger mark. At that time, the water level was recorded at 92.96 metres, while the danger mark was reported to be 92.73 metres.
With rainfall intensifying again, the river's water level is being closely monitored. Continued rainfall, along with water coming from upper areas, can affect the river's flow. Villages and low-lying areas along the river remain vulnerable to rising water levels.
Rainfall has also affected traffic movement in the city. Vehicles have been moving slowly at several locations where water has accumulated on roads. Two-wheeler riders have faced particular difficulty on waterlogged roads. At waterlogged locations, potholes may not be visible, increasing the risk of accidents.
The administration is also facing the challenge of maintaining drainage arrangements during the rainfall. Areas with substantial water accumulation require pumping and drainage measures. Prolonged waterlogging can affect local residents as well as shopkeepers and small businesses.
Families living in low-lying areas are facing additional concern because of the rising Saryu water level. If the river continues to rise, riverside areas could face problems related to erosion and waterlogging. In the past, residents of nearby villages and settlements have been advised to remain alert when the Saryu water level increased.
The rainfall could also affect Ayodhya's religious and tourism areas. Large numbers of devotees visit temples and religious sites in the city every day. Waterlogging may make it difficult for devotees to reach temples. Increased water levels also require caution for people visiting ghats and areas along the river.
As the water level in the Saryu rises, devotees taking baths in the river and boat operators also need to remain alert. Entering the river during b currents can be risky. Security arrangements and monitoring along the river may be increased by the administration.
Several other parts of Uttar Pradesh are also experiencing the impact of rainfall and flooding. According to the latest report, 19 districts of Uttar Pradesh have been reported to be affected by floods, while water levels in the Saryu and several other rivers remain elevated.
The administration in Ayodhya already monitors sensitive areas because of concerns related to the river's water level. Flood outposts and local administrative monitoring become important during such conditions. Residents living along the river also need to be prepared to move to safer locations if the water level rises suddenly.
Waterlogging in the city does not necessarily end immediately after the rain stops. If drainage remains slow, water can remain on roads and in lanes for several hours, affecting daily activities and vehicle movement.
Weather conditions will continue to be monitored in Ayodhya and surrounding areas in the coming hours. If rainfall continues, both waterlogging in low-lying areas and the Saryu River's water level could remain significant concerns.
Ayodhya is currently facing the combined impact of heavy rainfall and a rising Saryu River water level. The administration is monitoring the river level and sensitive areas, while people are being urged to keep away from waterlogged routes and sections of the river with b currents.
