Baghpat Administration Seizes 10 Vehicles, Imposes Rs 6.31 Lakh Fine in Illegal Mineral Transport Action

The district administration in Baghpat carried out enforcement action against illegal mineral transportation, seizing 10 vehicles for violations of mining rules and imposing fines totalling Rs 6.31 lakh on the vehicle owners.

According to officials, the administration had been receiving complaints for an extended period regarding unauthorised transportation of minerals in various parts of the district. Acting on the complaints, a joint team of the district administration and the mining department conducted intensive inspection drives at multiple locations.

During the checks, several vehicles carrying sand, soil and other minerals were stopped and drivers were asked to produce valid transport-related documents. Most drivers failed to present the required documents. Some vehicles did not have mining leases, while others were found without e-challans and permits.

Following the violations, 10 vehicles were seized on the spot. The seized vehicles included trucks, tractor-trolleys and dumpers that were being used for unauthorised mineral transportation. Under the Mining Act, fines amounting to a total of Rs 6.31 lakh were imposed on the concerned vehicle owners and operators.

Officials stated that illegal mining and mineral transportation cause losses to government revenue and damage to the environment. In view of this, surveillance in the district has been increased and no leniency will be shown in such cases.

The administration issued a warning that any person found mining or transporting minerals without valid permission will face stricter action. Authorities said vehicles may be confiscated and legal cases registered if required.

Local residents said illegal mineral transportation has been affecting road conditions and increasing the risk of accidents. They described the action by the administration as appropriate and called for the drive to continue.

The administration said checking drives will be intensified in the coming days on major routes and in areas prone to mining activity. Coordination among the mining department, police and revenue department will be strengthened to curb illegal activities.
