Sports News: As the Indian cricket team gears up for the Asia Cup 2025, the BCCI has made a significant change in the support staff ahead of the tournament. The contract of Rajiv Kumar, the long-serving massage therapist of Team India, has been terminated by the board. Rajiv has been a part of the Indian cricket team for the past 15 years and was also present with the players on the recent England tour.
Rajiv Kumar's Journey Ends After 15 Years
Rajiv Kumar himself confirmed this on Instagram. He wrote, "It is a matter of pride for me to have served the Indian cricket team for more than a decade. Thank you God for this opportunity. I am wholeheartedly grateful and excited about the new path ahead." Rajiv started his journey with the team in 2006 and has consistently played a vital role in the fitness and recovery of Indian players.
The players of the Indian team considered Rajiv Kumar not just a massage therapist, but a part of their family. His smile and constant presence on the sidelines of the field were very comforting for the players. After a long and tiring day of matches, the players would first go to him to relax their stiff muscles.
His role was not limited to massage therapy. Rajiv also prepared energy drinks, protein shakes, and hydration mixes for the players, which varied according to each player's needs. Apart from this, his presence on the field was also important. He would stay near the boundary line and collect balls, which helped the players stay refreshed and maintain the over rate.
Rajiv's Important Contribution to Team India
Rajiv Kumar's services were a crucial force behind the scenes in the success of the Indian team. His role in the fitness and recovery of the players has been acknowledged by everyone. Veteran players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have also praised his contribution on many occasions. During his long tenure of 15 years, Rajiv was with the Indian team in many World Cups, Asia Cups, and foreign tours. It will be difficult for both the players and the fans to imagine the dressing room without him.
The Indian team is now set to travel to the UAE for the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament will begin on September 9, and India will play its first match on September 10. Recently, the selection committee announced the 15-member Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain.
