Bhagalpur has witnessed another change in weather conditions, with intermittent rainfall bringing some relief from the heat and humidity experienced over the past few days. Cloudy skies and periodic showers have also brought down temperatures.
The weather department’s latest forecast indicates that cloudy conditions and rainfall may continue in Bhagalpur over the next three days. On August 31 and September 1, one or two spells of rain or thundershowers are likely, while moderate rainfall is expected on September 2.
Bhagalpur recorded 23 millimetres of rainfall in the 24 hours ending August 30. During the period, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature at 26.4 degrees Celsius.
Following the rainfall, humidity increased, providing some relief from the daytime humidity.
The weather change has been observed in both urban and rural areas of Bhagalpur. Cloud cover and intermittent rain have reduced the intensity of sunshine during the day. Rainfall remained light in several areas, while some locations received relatively heavier showers. Humidity increased again after the rain stopped, although persistent cloud cover kept conditions comparatively cooler.
According to the weather department’s forecast, Bhagalpur is likely to remain generally cloudy on August 31, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. Similar conditions are expected on September 1. Moderate rainfall is forecast for September 2, while thunderstorms with rain may occur on September 3.
The weather department’s data also indicates that light rain or drizzle may occur on September 4, meaning completely dry conditions are not expected over the coming days.
The weather change is also being closely watched because the Ganga’s water level in the district has already become a concern. Along with rainfall, the administration is monitoring the river’s water level.
According to the latest weather-related data, the Ganga is flowing in a serious flood situation at Kahalgaon. In Bhagalpur, the river’s water level is also reported to be above the warning level.
Additional rainfall in the coming days could affect low-lying areas. Areas already experiencing waterlogging or flooding could face further difficulties if rainfall continues. At the same time, rainfall may provide relief from heat and humidity in normal urban and rural areas.
According to the weather department, a weather system formed over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas is affecting several parts of eastern India. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand on August 30 and 31. Under its influence, rainfall activity may also continue in some parts of Bihar.
Bhagalpur’s location in eastern Bihar means that the effects of surrounding weather systems may also be felt in the district. As a result, the possibility of completely clear weather over the next few days remains low, with clouds and intermittent rainfall likely to continue.
Rainfall is also expected to provide relief to farmers. In areas where fields require adequate moisture, the rain may be useful for crops. However, additional rainfall could create difficulties for farmers in flood-affected areas.
Where water has already accumulated in fields in low-lying areas, continued rainfall could increase the risk of crop damage.
Rainfall could also affect traffic conditions in the city. Heavy showers may lead to waterlogging on roads, particularly in low-lying areas and on roads where drainage facilities are weak.
Traffic movement could be affected during periods of heavy rainfall, while roads may become slower for commuters.
Thunder and lightning may also accompany rainfall. The IMD’s local forecast has issued a warning of thunderstorms with lightning on September 1.
During such weather, people should avoid standing in open fields, under trees or near electricity poles.
Temperatures in Bhagalpur are currently not very high. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 32 to 33 degrees Celsius over the next few days, while the minimum temperature may remain around 26 to 27 degrees.
The lower daytime temperatures may reduce the intensity of heat, although increased humidity following rainfall may continue to cause discomfort.
Clouds have replaced the intense afternoon sunshine in several areas. Rain has also been starting suddenly in some locations and stopping after a short period.
The changing weather may affect people travelling outside, including schoolchildren, office workers and those visiting markets. Traffic may slow during rainfall, while heavy showers could cause waterlogging and disrupt movement.
The coming days will also remain important for the administration because of the Ganga’s water level in Bhagalpur. Rainfall and river conditions will require continued monitoring, while relief and rescue arrangements in flood-affected villages need to remain active.
Residents of low-lying areas may need to remain attentive to updates concerning weather conditions and the river’s water level.
Overall, intermittent rainfall has brought some relief from heat and humidity in Bhagalpur, while the rising Ganga water level remains a concern for flood-affected areas. According to the IMD, rainfall may continue from August 31 to September 2, with thunderstorms and lightning also possible on September 1.
