In the initial trends for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the NDA is leading on 191 seats. JDU and BJP have performed splendidly, and allied parties have also shown strength. The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) appears to be trailing, and political equations are changing.
Bihar Results 2025: The trends from the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 have surprised even political pundits. According to the initial trends, the NDA alliance appears to be moving towards a massive majority. In the 243-member assembly, the NDA is leading on approximately 191 seats. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan, led by Tejashwi Yadav, seems marginalized in the trends despite major promises of employment and development. This election's results have challenged all traditional political equations and filled NDA supporters with enthusiasm.
JDU and BJP Deliver Excellent Performance
In this election, JDU fielded its candidates on 101 seats and has secured a lead on 76 seats so far. In the last Assembly Elections of 2020, JDU contested on 115 seats but could only win 43. This time, JDU's performance shows a remarkable improvement compared to the previous election.
BJP also contested on 101 seats and is leading on 84 seats in the initial trends. In 2020, BJP fielded candidates on 110 seats and won only 74. The performance of these two major NDA parties has propelled the alliance towards a huge majority, clearly indicating that public sentiment this time is in favor of the NDA.
Strong Performance by NDA Allies
Other allied parties of the NDA have also demonstrated their strength in this election. The Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) fielded candidates on 6 seats and secured a lead on 4. Meanwhile, Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) joined the NDA this time and fielded its candidates on 29 seats, leading on 20 of them.

In the last 2020 election, LJP (R) contested independently on 135 seats but managed to win only one. This time, their performance is seen as a political revival, demonstrating that the b showing of allied parties has further strengthened the NDA's position.
Challenging Situation for Mahagathbandhan
These results have caused a stir within the Mahagathbandhan. The election was contested with Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial face, and he adopted a strategy to consolidate Yadav, Muslim, and Mallah votes. However, initial trends indicate that this electoral equation did not prove effective.
However, it would be incorrect to say that the Mahagathbandhan has been completely marginalized. RJD still leads the opposition camp and maintains a lead on some seats in the trends. But the NDA's b lead has presented the Mahagathbandhan with the challenge of re-evaluating its strategies.
Electoral Equations Seen Changing in Bihar
The election results in Bihar indicate that the public has prioritized development and stable leadership this time. Nitish Kumar's JDU has improved both its seat count and performance. Under his leadership, the coordinated efforts of JDU and BJP have played a decisive role in propelling the alliance towards a large majority.
This time, the NDA strengthened its vote bank in both rural and urban areas and gained the support of women and young voters. This demographic has proven decisive in previous elections, and its role is clearly visible in the results this time as well.
Mahagathbandhan's Strategy Put to the Test
The Mahagathbandhan had made employment, development, and welfare for the poor its main issues. Led by Tejashwi Yadav, the alliance had hoped to challenge the NDA by leveraging social equations. However, initial trends suggest that the Mahagathbandhan's strategy did not prove as effective.
