Bihar: The Union Cabinet has approved major infrastructure projects for Bihar and neighboring states. Two key projects, costing a total of Rs 7,616 crore, have been given the green light. These include a 4-lane highway from Mokama to Munger and a double-track railway line from Bhagalpur to Rampurhat. This announcement comes before the Bihar Assembly elections and is considered a significant step towards the state's development.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that this is an important segment of the Buxar-Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor. The project, spanning 82 kilometers from Mokama to Munger, will involve a total investment of Rs 4,447 crore. Upon completion, travel time will be reduced by approximately one hour, thereby boosting connectivity and economic activities in the region.
Double Track Railway Line from Bhagalpur to Rampurhat
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also announced the approval for the double-tracking of the Bhagalpur-Dumka-Rampurhat railway line. This 177-kilometer-long rail line is a crucial project connecting Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The total cost of this project is Rs 3,169 crore.
According to the minister, railway cargo had been declining since independence, falling to 27% last year. It has now increased to approximately 29%. The total number of infrastructure projects approved during the Prime Minister's third term has reached about Rs 11 lakh crore. This is creating employment opportunities and bringing about noticeable changes in the lives of common people.
Mokama-Munger Highway: Saving Time and Fuel on Journeys
The construction of the Mokama-Munger highway is extremely important for South Bihar. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed that this four-lane highway will save both time and fuel for travelers. This highway will also reduce traffic load in the area and accelerate business activities.
Furthermore, this section of the Buxar-Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor will pave the way for development across the entire state. The construction of the highway will also help reduce road accidents and increase the speed of goods transportation.
Why is this Project Important Before the Elections in Bihar
Assembly elections are due in Bihar by the end of this year. In this context, this announcement by the central government is considered politically significant. The Union Minister mentioned that several projects have also been approved for neighboring states besides Bihar. This initiative will increase employment in the state and improve the living standards of the people.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that this project is not just about development but an opportunity to strengthen the state's economy and connectivity. The completion of both road and railway projects will benefit both passengers and traders.
Boost to Employment and Economic Development
These projects will create numerous new employment opportunities in Bihar. Thousands of laborers, engineers, and technical staff will be employed in the construction of the Mokama-Munger highway and the Bhagalpur-Rampurhat double-track project. Additionally, after the completion of the construction work, business and transportation speeds will increase in the region.
The Union Minister highlighted that the total Rs 11 lakh crore worth of projects approved during the Prime Minister's tenure will drive infrastructure development not only in Bihar but across India. This initiative will also lead to improvements in the education, health, and business sectors in the state.
Double Track and Four-Lane Highway: Technical Details
The Bhagalpur-Dumka-Rampurhat double-track railway line will be developed with modern technology and safety standards. The double-tracking of this railway line will increase the speed of goods and passengers, leading to time savings.
Modern road construction techniques and durable materials will be used in the construction of the Mokama-Munger four-lane highway. Flyovers and bridges will be built on both sides of the road to ensure smooth traffic flow.
