Bihar Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall and Flood Warning Issued

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for Bihar, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state on August 12th and 13th, for which an Orange Alert has been issued. There remains a risk of thunderstorms accompanied by b winds and lightning strikes in several districts of North and South Bihar. The rising water levels of the Ganga and other rivers have increased the risk of flooding, prompting the administration to appeal to people to remain vigilant.

Bihar: With the monsoon's activity, the weather in Bihar has completely changed. Continuous rains are affecting public life in many districts. There is a possibility of thunderstorms and torrential rains in 19 districts of North Bihar, while South Bihar may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. Several low-lying areas in Ganga, Buxar, and Bhagalpur are submerged due to rising water levels. The Meteorological Department has warned of b winds and lightning strikes, while the administration has put disaster management teams on alert.

Heavy Rains Could Worsen Conditions

The activation of the monsoon has brought a significant change in the weather in Bihar. Continuous rainfall has increased difficulties in many districts. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of thunderstorms and torrential rains in 19 districts of North Bihar, while South Bihar, including Patna, may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, the water level of the Ganges River in Patna has reached above the danger mark.

Ganga Water Level Rises

The water level of the Ganga and other rivers is continuously rising in several districts, including Patna, Buxar, and Bhagalpur. Floodwaters have entered low-lying areas in many parts of North Bihar, affecting hundreds of families. With the rains, there is a possibility of further increase in water levels, which could further exacerbate the situation in the flood-affected areas. The administration has intensified relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.

Orange Alert Issued in These Districts

On Monday, East Champaran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, West Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, and Madhubani have been experiencing rain since morning. The Patna Meteorological Center has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in Darbhanga, Vaishali, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar. There is a possibility of winds blowing at a speed of 30-40 kilometers per hour and thundershowers in these districts.

Risk of Lightning Strikes and Strong Winds

The Meteorological Department has warned that there remains a risk of lightning strikes in many areas. People have been advised not to go out in the open and to stay in safe places. Farmers have also been appealed to take precautions while working in the fields. The administration has put disaster management teams on alert so that quick action can be taken when needed.
