The BJP posted an AI video on X comparing Indira Gandhi to Hitler. Congress leader S. Manohar filed an FIR, calling it offensive, and demanded legal action.
Delhi: A major political controversy has erupted following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) posting of an AI-generated video comparing former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to Hitler. The Congress has bly objected to the video, and a party leader in Karnataka has filed a police complaint against it. The Congress alleges that the post not only insulted Indira Gandhi but also attempted to incite religious hatred in society.
What is the whole matter?
The BJP posted a video on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, portraying Indira Gandhi as Hitler. This video was created using AI technology, with Hitler-like small mustaches added to Indira Gandhi's image. The video begins with the AI-generated Indira Gandhi saying, "I declare an emergency and take control of the country."
After this, the narrator in the video says that the country lost its voice, democracy was buried, the press was silenced, and opposition leaders were jailed. The video ends with the text, "Indira is not equal to India, Indira is equal to Hitler."
Sharp Opposition from the Congress
The Congress has reacted sharply to this post. Karnataka Congress leader S. Manohar has filed a police complaint, calling the video offensive. He alleged that the BJP's post is not only insulting to Indira Gandhi but also an attempt to incite hatred among religious groups and communities. Manohar has demanded strict legal action against the BJP's social media handle.
Another Objectionable Post Also Emerged
Another video was posted from the BJP's X account. It called the Emergency "Hitler's remnant... in a saree." This 12-second AI-generated video shows Indira Gandhi wearing a saree on a podium. The Congress has also expressed displeasure over this video and called it an insult to women.
Background of the Emergency
The Emergency is an important but controversial chapter in India's democratic history. On June 25, 1975, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared an emergency in the country, which lasted for 21 months. During this time, civil rights were restricted, censorship was imposed on the press, and opposition leaders were arrested.
Congress's Legal Preparations
The FIR filed by Congress leader S. Manohar accuses the BJP of spreading animosity between religious communities and damaging the image of the former Prime Minister. The FIR also states that such digital content can increase hatred in society and harm social harmony.
