He said that "Rajiv Gandhi brought computers to the country, but Congress also gave the country a robot Prime Minister in the form of Manmohan Singh." He alleged that Dr. Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister in name only and worked like a robot.

The Congress party immediately reacted bly to the BJP leader's remark. The party described it as a public insult to the former Prime Minister and said that Manmohan Singh was not only a respected leader but also a visionary economist, under whose leadership the country witnessed historic economic reforms. Congress leaders, calling the BJP's statement unfortunate, said that it is an insult not only to Dr. Singh but to the entire democratic values.
