On Sunday, a video went viral on social media, showing the woman being beaten with sticks and dragged by her hair by her father-in-law and two brothers-in-law on the street. The video incited anger among the public and demands for action from the administration.
Local residents stated that the incident occurred on the main road of Mohalla Rani Avantibai Nagar, where common people were also present. Hearing the woman's screams, people from the surroundings gathered, but the culprits managed to escape from the scene. Upon receiving immediate information, the police reached the spot and began their investigation.
Police Arrested the Accused
The police immediately filed a case against three accused. Upon raiding the premises, both brothers-in-law fled the scene, while the father-in-law locked himself in a room on the second floor of the house. For about 16 hours, police personnel stood by the door, persuading the accused to come out.
On Monday morning at 10 AM, the police convinced the accused father-in-law to come out and arrested him, taking him to Sahawar police station. Additionally, the woman's one brother-in-law was also arrested by the police. Officials stated that the arrested accused will be produced in court soon.
Police Ensured Victim's Safety
Confirming the incident, CO Sahawar police station, Shahida Nasreen, said that the police received information from Mohalla Rani Avantibai Nagar about the woman being assaulted by her in-laws. Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot, the victim underwent a medical examination, and a case was immediately registered.
The CO further added that the police have taken all necessary steps to ensure the woman's safety. She also stated that strict action will be taken against the accused and care will be taken to ensure the victim faces no threat whatsoever.
