BJP National President Election Process Begins, Voting Scheduled for January 20

The Bharatiya Janata Party has initiated the formal process for the election of its national president. Acting National President Nitin Nabin has filed his nomination, with voting and result declaration scheduled for January 20 as per the party’s notified election programme.

The formal process for the election of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national president began on Monday. Acting National President Nitin Nabin filed his nomination as per the notified election schedule. The organisational decision has been taken after the completion of organisational elections across states.

According to the election programme, nominations for the post of BJP national president were to be filed on January 19. Nitin Nabin was scheduled to submit his nomination papers between 2 pm and 4 pm. Scrutiny of nomination papers was to be conducted on the same day between 4 pm and 5 pm, during which any objections or technical deficiencies were to be addressed.

The time allotted for withdrawal of nominations was fixed from 5 pm to 6 pm. Party sources indicated that clarity regarding the contest would emerge after the withdrawal process.

The election for the new national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party will be held on January 20. The results will be declared on the same day, followed by the formal announcement of the new president. Senior party leaders are expected to be present during the election and declaration.

The electoral college for the national president election comprises 5,708 voters drawn from 30 states where organisational elections have already been completed. The electoral roll includes members of the National Council and State Councils, along with 35 senior leaders from the Parliamentary Party.

Among those listed in the electoral roll are Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and current BJP National President JP Nadda.

Under the party constitution, the election of the national president is conducted only after the completion of organisational elections in the states. With organisational polls concluded in 30 states, the national-level election process has now commenced.

Nitin Nabin has been active in Bihar politics and has been elected as a legislator five times. He was appointed BJP National Executive President on December 15. If elected, the 46-year-old would become the youngest national president in the party’s history.
