ChatGPT's new Record Mode is now available for Plus users, automatically generating transcriptions, summaries, and notes from meetings.
ChatGPT: OpenAI has launched a fantastic new feature, Record Mode, in the ChatGPT app for macOS users, which is now also available for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This feature was previously limited to Team users, but now Plus users worldwide can also benefit from it. The biggest highlight of this feature is that it can record your meetings or voice calls and then prepare their transcriptions, summaries, and useful notes – all automatically and smartly.
What is Record Mode?
Record Mode is an AI-enabled tool specifically designed for digital meetings and voice notes. When you are in a conference call, team meeting, or virtual seminar, this feature records the system audio and then converts it to text, generating transcriptions, concise summaries, and understandable notes. Its biggest advantage is that it records everything through the system audio in the background without actually joining a meeting, ensuring no privacy violations and keeping the meeting smooth.
How does it work?
Record Mode's functionality is extremely smart and intuitive:
- It is part of the ChatGPT app running on macOS.
- The user needs to tap the record button at the bottom of the app.
- Permission for microphone and system audio access must be granted before starting the recording.
- A maximum of 120 minutes of audio recording is possible in one session.
- The user can pause and resume the recording if they wish.
- After the recording is finished, the transcript, summary, and notes are displayed in 'Canvas', which the user can further convert into emails or reports.
Who can use it?
This feature is only available for users who:
- Use macOS,
- Have the ChatGPT app installed,
- And are ChatGPT Plus subscribers.
- After Team users, this feature has now been made available worldwide for Individual Plus users.
Which language is currently supported?
Currently, Record Mode only supports the English language. However, OpenAI has clarified that they are working towards bringing support for other languages soon, which will make this tool even more useful for global users.
What are its main benefits?
- No need to take active notes in meetings – AI listens and writes everything itself.
- Accurate transcriptions and summaries – allowing other team members to review later.
- Up to 120 minutes of recording – large conference sessions can also be easily covered.
- Facility to generate detailed reports – which helps in reporting and documentation.
- Completely private processing – no external interference.
What is the privacy policy?
OpenAI has clarified that Record Mode works while fully protecting privacy. This tool does not become part of the meeting, nor does it send any kind of audio data anywhere outside. All recordings are processed locally, and the user has complete control over them.
What are the future plans?
OpenAI plans to make Record Mode available on:
- Windows and other operating systems in the coming months,
- Add support for other languages such as Hindi, Spanish, French, etc.,
- Link recordings to automatic cloud storage,
- And connect AI-powered meeting summaries directly to Google Docs, Notion, etc.
