Chitrangda Singh on Bollywood's Age Pressure: 'It's for Everyone, Not Just Women'

The increasing age of male actors in Bollywood and their romance with much younger actresses in films has always been a topic of discussion. In this context, the question arises whether female actresses feel pressure to prevent themselves from aging.

Entertainment News: Bollywood's beautiful and talented actress Chitrangda Singh recently made a very pertinent remark regarding age, beauty, and looks in the film industry. She stated, “Everyone is trying to look young, and there’s nothing wrong with that.” Chitrangda also added that whether it's men or women, if a character needs to appear a certain age, it's essential to prepare oneself accordingly.

Chitrangda Singh Speaks Candidly on Aging and Pressure in the Film Industry

It is often observed in Bollywood that older male actors are seen romancing actresses many years their junior. This raises the question: do female actresses face more pressure regarding aging? Speaking to HT (Hindustan Times) on this, Chitrangda Singh said:

'This pressure isn't just for women; it's for everyone. If you are playing the role of a 70-year-old woman, you should look like that. And if you want to play a 30-year-old role, you should be able to look and portray it accordingly.'

She believes that the true beauty of acting lies in adapting oneself to the character, rather than hiding one's age.

‘Akshay Kumar Sets an Example with His Fitness’

Chitrangda further stated that the pressure of age is not just on actresses but equally on actors. Giving the example of Akshay Kumar, she said:

'Akki pays great attention to his fitness and diet. He prepares his body and look according to the character. When a role is written for a male actor, they get a bit more flexibility compared to female characters — but this doesn't mean there's partiality. Ultimately, the responsibility for carrying the film forward rests with both.'

Chitrangda believes that today's audiences are more aware than ever and seek depth in acting, not just glamour.

‘Kareena and Vidya Still Dominate the Screen’

In this conversation, Chitrangda Singh highly praised Kareena Kapoor Khan and Vidya Balan. She said that both actresses have proven that age never hinders acting. Kareena is doing phenomenal work. Vidya Balan consistently appears in b roles. They have shown that the truth and confidence in acting matter more than age or looks.

Chitrangda further added that artists worldwide are now trying to keep themselves fit, self-reliant, and confident. Citing the examples of Hollywood actresses Nicole Kidman and Demi Moore, she said, "Look at Nicole Kidman or Demi Moore; everyone is trying to look young. This isn't just about appearances; it's part of professional responsibility. You have to keep yourself fit according to your role."

‘Being an Artist Means Constantly Facing Pressure’

Chitrangda states that every artist in the entertainment industry faces some form of pressure, be it related to looks, acting, or audience expectations. This profession inherently demands that you constantly look better, perform better, and become better. But this is also the beauty of this profession; you get the opportunity to reinvent yourself every day.
