Mumbai: Fake IB Officer Defrauds Investors of Over ₹100 Crore in Real Estate Scam, Dies Suspiciously

In Mumbai, businessman Mohammad Aslam Qureshi filed a complaint against Rupesh Prabhakar Chaudhary, a fake IB officer, for real estate fraud exceeding 100 crore rupees. Chaudhary recently died under suspicious circumstances.

Mumbai: A case has emerged that is no less than a crime thriller. Businessman Mohammad Aslam Qureshi filed a complaint with the police regarding real estate fraud exceeding 100 crore rupees. The startling fact is that the accused, Rupesh Prabhakar Chaudhary, who recently passed away, defrauded investors by posing as a senior officer of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Preliminary investigation revealed that Chaudhary convinced many investors by showing them fake documents, counterfeit GRAS challans, and forged MHADA orders, making them believe he could secure flats at a government level.

Exposure of the Fake IB Persona

According to the complaint, to portray himself as a highly influential and senior officer, Chaudhary would travel in cars with red beacons, employ bodyguards, and display photos with IAS and police officers. He also organized lavish parties attended by senior officials and TV personalities.

According to Qureshi, Chaudhary induced investors to invest in various real estate projects such as Soham Apartment (Walkeshwar), Green Age Hill (Powai), Minerva, Rustomjee Crown, and Prestige Jasdan. The total investment was approximately 17 crore rupees, while the defrauded amount is stated to be over 100 crore rupees.

Chaudhary's Fake Documents and Suspicious Death

Chaudhary had prepared forged documents and orders in the name of Anil Diggikar, the Vice Chairman of MHADA. Following Chaudhary's death, an investigation revealed that Diggikar clarified he had never known Chaudhary and all documents were fake.

Qureshi suspects that Chaudhary's death occurred under suspicious circumstances, as irregularities and red marks were found on his chest in the post-mortem report. Furthermore, Chaudhary's wife is also accused of retaining the funds received from investors and threatening them with false cases.

Police Initiate Investigation into the Case

The complaint was filed through lawyers from YNA Legal, demanding the registration of an FIR for fraud, forgery, and conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Along with the complaint, photographs, WhatsApp chats, fake documents, and evidence of financial transactions have also been submitted. Both Mumbai and Nashik police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
