Chamoli: Another cloudburst incident has wreaked havoc in the hilly district of Chamoli, Uttarakhand. A cloudburst suddenly occurred in the Mopata village of Deval tehsil on Sunday, causing heavy debris to flow towards the village. Two people are reported missing in this incident, while several people have been injured. A cowshed was also completely engulfed by the debris in the incident, with fears that approximately 15 to 20 cattle may be buried.
Villagers said that the debris came so quickly that no one had time to react. In a moment, the entire area turned into a scene of debris and devastation. Chaos ensued, and people started fleeing towards safer locations to save their lives.
Houses and Cowshed Buried in Debris Due to Heavy Rain
This incident in Mopata village is extremely tragic and frightening. According to information received from the local administration, Tara Singh and his wife have not been found yet. Their family is in deep distress. Meanwhile, Vikram Singh and his wife from the same village were seriously injured and were sent to the hospital after receiving first aid.
A large cowshed has also been buried under the debris. Villagers say that the number of cattle in the cowshed was between 15 to 20. Currently, the chances of these animals surviving are considered very slim. The entire village is in mourning following the accident.
Search for Missing Persons Continues
Upon receiving information about the incident, administrative and disaster management teams reached the spot. Local police, SDRF, and district administration teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. However, continuous rain and the obstruction of hilly roads are creating difficulties in the rescue efforts.
Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari stated that relief teams are working round-the-clock to clear the debris and search for the missing persons. Due to heavy rainfall, roads in many parts of the district are closed, causing problems for rescue teams in reaching the accident site. Nevertheless, the administration is making every possible effort to save lives.
CM Dhami Orders Relief Measures
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep sorrow over this incident. Sharing information on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he said that following cloudburst incidents in Chamoli and Rudraprayag, instructions have been issued to the administration to conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing.
CM Dhami wrote that he is in constant contact with the Disaster Secretary and District Magistrates. He assured that affected families would be provided all possible assistance. The Chief Minister also prayed to Baba Kedarnath for the safety of everyone.
Fear and Anxiety Grip Village Due to Rain
This cloudburst incident has created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the villagers. People are now concerned about the safety of their homes and livestock. Villagers say that such incidents often occur during the monsoon, and the government should make adequate arrangements in advance for them.
According to experts, the sensitive hilly regions of Uttarakhand are considered the most disaster-prone during the monsoon. Continuous heavy rainfall increases the risk of landslides and cloudbursts.
