Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is arriving in Gorakhpur on Thursday, October 9, for a two-day visit. During this time, he will pay tribute to the late Professor U.P. Singh, president of the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, an educational institution of the Gorakhnath Peeth.
Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will arrive in Gorakhpur on Thursday, October 9, 2025, for a two-day visit. During this period, he will pay homage to the late Professor U.P. Singh, former president of the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, an educational institution of the Gorakhnath Peeth. Prof. U.P. Singh passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 94.
The condolence meeting will be held at the Tourist Facilitation Center located within the Gorakhnath Temple, starting at 5:30 PM. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will offer floral tributes to the portrait of Prof. U.P. Singh. Additionally, he will be honored as his life and educational contributions are remembered.
Contribution of Prof. U.P. Singh
Prof. U.P. Singh dedicated his entire life to the Gorakhnath Peeth and the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad. He was an eminent scholar of mathematics and also served as the head of the Mathematics Department at Gorakhpur University. Furthermore, he had been the Vice-Chancellor of Purvanchal University, Jaunpur. In 2018, he was appointed president of the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad and held this position throughout his life.
In 2021, at the time of the establishment of Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, Gorakhpur, he was appointed Pro-Chancellor. Additionally, Prof. U.P. Singh served in various capacities at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Vidya Bharati. His academic and organizational capabilities also provided him with the opportunity to work closely with three consecutive heads of the Gorakhnath Peeth.
Inauguration of Swadeshi Mela
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the Swadeshi Mela (Indigenous Fair) organized near Ramgarhtal Champa Devi Park on Friday, October 10, 2025. This fair will run from October 10 to October 18. District Magistrate Deepak Meena stated in a review meeting with officials that the fair is being organized with the aim of promoting the spirit of 'Vocal for Local' and providing a platform for local producers and entrepreneurs. He added that complete arrangements for electricity, drinking water, security, sanitation, health facilities, and parking will be ensured at the fair.
The Swadeshi Mela will feature stalls from indigenous products, handicrafts, Khadi, handlooms, herbal products, food processing units, startups, and MSME entrepreneurs from across the state. The DM informed that the Chief Minister's arrival will enhance the fair's grandeur and set an example for Gorakhpur's identity at the state level.
