Chaos erupted in Hanumanganj market, Prayagraj, on Thursday evening when gas suddenly started leaking from a CNG tanker. As gas rapidly escaped from the lid of the moving tanker on GT Road, nearby people, shopkeepers, and passersby panicked and started fleeing in all directions.
As soon as the gas leak began, the tanker driver fled the scene, after which a state of disarray persisted throughout the area for approximately 20–25 minutes. Upon receiving information, a police team immediately arrived at the scene, evacuated the area, and brought the situation under control. Officials, exercising caution, moved the tanker to a safe location and took action to stop the leak.
Fortunately, there were no casualties in this incident. Shops in the market were temporarily closed, and traffic also had to be halted for a short while.
Local residents stated that if the gas leak had continued for a little longer, a major accident could have occurred. This incident once again proves that even a slight lapse in caution with vehicles carrying hazardous materials can lead to serious consequences.
