The administration in Motihari (East Champaran) has arrested a cyber cafe operator for allegedly preparing fake Aadhaar cards following a raid that led to the seizure of several suspected documents, copies of Aadhaar cards and computer equipment.
Raid Conducted After Secret Information
According to officials, the local administration received confidential information that illegal alterations to Aadhaar cards and preparation of fake documents were being carried out at a cyber cafe. After verifying the information, a joint team of the Circle Officer (CO) and police conducted a raid at the premises.
During the inspection, several photocopies of Aadhaar cards, suspected application forms and digital data were seized.
Allegations of Unauthorized Modifications
Preliminary investigation revealed that the operator was allegedly involved in preparing or modifying Aadhaar cards based on incorrect information. Officials stated that such activities could lead to discrepancies in government schemes and identity-related documents.
The Circle Officer stated that any form of forgery involving identity documents is a serious offence and warned that strict legal action would be taken in such cases. The process to seal the concerned cyber cafe has also been initiated.
Forensic Examination of Seized Devices
Police officials said the seized computers and digital equipment will undergo forensic examination to determine how many individuals’ documents were tampered with. Authorities are also investigating whether other persons are involved in the network.
An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections, and further legal proceedings are underway. The administration reiterated that any tampering with government identity documents will be dealt with strictly.
