Darbhanga Airport is expected to receive a night landing facility in the near future. Darbhanga MP Gopalji Thakur met the Minister of State for Defence and urged the government to expedite completion of the project and accelerate plans related to the airport’s expansion.
During the meeting, the MP said Darbhanga Airport has become a key air travel hub for millions of people in North Bihar. Given the increasing number of passengers, he said the introduction of a night landing facility is essential. The facility would enable the operation of late-evening and night flights, providing greater convenience to passengers.
The MP also sought faster completion of the airport’s civil enclave project. He stated that completion of the project would provide passengers with improved terminal facilities and increase the airport’s operational capacity.
The Minister of State for Defence assured the MP that issues related to Darbhanga Airport are being considered seriously. He said coordination among the concerned departments would be established to advance work on the night landing facility and the civil enclave project.
Darbhanga Airport operates from an Indian Air Force airbase, making coordination among the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India necessary for any major expansion or new facility. Passenger traffic at the airport has increased steadily in recent years, leading to growing demand for expansion.
Local residents and business organisations have also welcomed the demand for the introduction of a night landing facility. They believe it would improve air services and support trade, tourism and economic activities in North Bihar.
No official date has been announced for the launch of the night landing facility. However, following the MP’s initiative, expectations have risen that work on the project will gain momentum. Progress on the initiative is expected in the coming months.
