Deadly Russian Missile Strikes Kill 16 in Ukraine; Zelenskyy Seeks Support in Türkiye

Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine killed 16 people and injured dozens. Significant destruction was reported in Ternopil and Kharkiv, while President Zelenskyy had arrived in Türkiye to increase international support.

Russia-Ukraine War: Russian drone and missile attacks caused widespread destruction in Ukraine on Tuesday night. These attacks killed 16 people and injured over 37. These attacks occurred as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Türkiye to increase international pressure on Russia. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that two nine-story apartment blocks were targeted in the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil, where over 66 people were injured, including 16 children.

Russia Launched Drones and 48 Missiles

According to Ukraine's Air Force, Russia attacked 476 Ukrainian targets overnight with decoy drones and also launched 48 missiles. President Zelenskyy wrote on 'Telegram' that such attacks on civilians clearly demonstrate that the pressure being exerted on Russia is still insufficient. He stated that he would meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to further diplomatically isolate Russia.

Dozens Injured in Kharkiv

In the northeastern city of Kharkiv, 46 people, including two girls, were injured by Russian drone attacks. Oleh Syniehubov, head of the regional military administration, reported that these attacks damaged over 16 residential buildings, a school, an ambulance station, and several civilian structures. Meanwhile, Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed that Ukraine targeted the Russian city of Voronezh with American ATACMS missiles, but all missiles were destroyed. Falling debris damaged an orphanage and a nursing home, though no casualties were reported.

Zelenskyy's Talks in Türkiye

Hours before the attacks, Zelenskyy had stated that he would visit Türkiye this week as part of efforts to accelerate the peace process to end the war, which has been ongoing for nearly four years. However, the Kremlin made it clear that no Russian representative would participate in these talks. Türkiye had hosted talks between the two countries earlier this year, but at that time, only limited progress was made regarding prisoner exchanges. US-led peace efforts have also not achieved significant success so far.
