Maharajganj, December 26, 2025: A sensation prevailed this morning after the discovery of a decomposed and unidentified body in a sugarcane field in Pauhariya village, within the jurisdiction of the Ghugli police station. Police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation, sending the body for post-mortem examination.
Local villagers informed the police about the body found in the field. Due to the body having been there for a considerable period, identification was not possible, and some parts had been damaged by animals.
Police have initiated forensic analysis and the post-mortem process to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the cause of death. CCTV footage from the surrounding area and lists of missing persons are also being examined.
Police suspect foul play and believe the body may have been brought from another location and dumped in the sugarcane field. Interrogation of villagers is ongoing, and all possible leads are being pursued to expedite the investigation.
