Maharajganj, December 26, 2025: A passenger train travelling on the Nautanwa-Anandanagar rail route collided with a herd of cattle crossing the tracks, resulting in the death of 10 animals and injuries to 3 others. The incident caused disruption to rail services for approximately 10 minutes.

The train, heading towards Gorakhpur, collided with the cattle near Lok Vidya Peeth Nagar station at around 10 PM on Wednesday night. Due to dense fog, the driver was unable to spot the animals on the track in time, leading to the accident.

Following the collision, the carcasses of the animals became lodged in front of the engine, causing the train to halt for a period. Police and administrative officials arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

The deceased animals included five cows, four bulls, and one nilgai (blue bull). The three injured animals have been sent to a local cow shelter and veterinary hospital for treatment.

Rail traffic was briefly disrupted, but services were subsequently resumed safely. The incident serves as a warning about the dangers of fog and animals straying onto the tracks.
