Delhi AAP Leader Atishi Demands Immediate Financial Aid for Flood Victims

AAP leader of opposition Atishi demanded immediate financial assistance for flood-affected families from CM Rekha Gupta. She appealed for Rs 18,000 for affected families and Rs 20,000 per acre for farmers as compensation.

New Delhi: Expressing concern over the plight of flood-affected families, Atishi, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, appealed to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for immediate financial aid and compensation. She stated that each adult member should receive Rs 18,000 and farmers Rs 20,000 per acre as compensation. Atishi also highlighted the loss of children's books, bags, and important documents, and expressed concern over the disorganization and lack of basic amenities in relief camps. She emphasized that the government's prompt action could be life-changing for the affected families.

Demand for Financial Assistance for Flood-Affected Families

Atishi said that thousands of families in the capital have lost their homes, crops, and essential belongings to the floods. She demanded that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta provide financial assistance to the affected people, calculated based on minimum wages.

The Leader of Opposition stressed that children's educational materials such as books, notebooks, and bags have also been destroyed in the flood. Therefore, books and notebooks should be distributed in schools immediately. Additionally, special camps should be set up to re-issue destroyed Aadhaar cards, certificates, and other documents, so that people do not have to make rounds of government offices.

Demand for Financial Aid and Compensation for Farmers and Families

Atishi mentioned that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has already announced compensation in favor of farmers. She demanded that the Delhi government do the same so that farmers who have suffered losses to their crops and homes due to the floods can find relief.

She cited the example of Reena Devi from Yamuna Bazaar, whose house, children's books, and essential documents were washed away. She has not been able to go to work for the past ten days and has no means left. Atishi stated that this is not just the story of one family, but thousands of families are in a similar situation.

Accusation of Disorganization Against BJP

Atishi accused the Delhi BJP government of disorganization in the relief camps. She said there is a lack of basic amenities like water, sanitation, electricity, and food, and people are living in insecurity and uncertainty.

The Leader of Opposition warned that if the government does not announce a relief package immediately, it will lead to further hardships for the flood victims. She reiterated that the need of the hour is to help affected families return to a safe and normal life.
