Rail operations on the Delhi–Ghaziabad rail section have not yet returned to normal following the derailment of a freight train, with the disruption continuing to affect services at Kanpur Central railway station on Wednesday. Several major trains arrived hours behind schedule, resulting in extended waiting times for passengers.
Rail traffic on the Delhi–Ghaziabad section remained affected after the freight train derailment. Although several trains were rescheduled, repeated stoppages en route and continued traffic disruptions caused them to reach their destinations well behind their scheduled arrival times.
Railway officials are continuing efforts to restore normal operations, but train movement on several routes remains affected.
Several major trains arriving in Kanpur on Wednesday were delayed by many hours. Train No. 02570 Darbhanga Special, which had been rescheduled on Tuesday, reached Kanpur on Wednesday morning nearly 14 hours behind schedule.
Similarly, Train No. 12274 Howrah Duronto Express arrived about 13 hours late. Train No. 12034 Kanpur Shatabdi was delayed by about seven hours, Train No. 12878 Garib Rath Express by about nine hours, and Train No. 15706 Humsafar Express by about 11 hours.
In addition, Train No. 22824 Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani reached Kanpur about eight hours late. Train No. 12556 Gorakhdham Superfast operated about nine hours behind schedule, while Train No. 12452 Shram Shakti Express was delayed by about six hours.
The continued delays caused inconvenience for passengers at Kanpur Central railway station. People waiting for trains on the Howrah, Gorakhpur and other major routes remained on platforms for several hours.
Despite being rescheduled, several trains were halted for extended periods during their journeys, further affecting passengers' travel. Several passengers also expressed dissatisfaction over not receiving timely information and the continuing increase in delays.
The railway administration is continuing work to fully restore operations on the affected rail section. Train services are being regularised in phases, although some services continue to be affected by the derailment.
The railway advised passengers to check the latest status of their trains before travelling to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
