On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 75th birthday, the Delhi government has inaugurated special centers for persons with disabilities and senior citizens. This initiative has been taken under the 'Seva Pakhwada' (Service Fortnight) commencing from September 17.
New Delhi: On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 75th birthday, the Delhi government is undertaking several important initiatives for special categories of people during the 'Seva Pakhwada' (Service Fortnight) starting today, September 17. During this fortnight, special gifts will be presented to visually impaired, intellectually disabled, and senior citizens. The Atal Drishti Hostel for visually impaired college-going female students, the Atal Asha Grih for intellectually disabled individuals, and the Savitribai Phule Senior Citizen Home for the elderly have been constructed.
These centers have been built at a total cost of Rs 64.66 crore, with the aim of making people from special categories self-reliant and providing them with opportunities to live a life of dignity.
Inauguration Ceremony
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate these centers from Thyagaraj Stadium. The Chief Minister stated that his government is continuously working to make the lives of people from special categories simpler and safer. He added that the government will not shy away from providing facilities to any section of society.
Atal Drishti Hostel: For Visually Impaired Female Students
A four-story Atal Drishti Hostel has been constructed near Delhi University in Timarpur at a cost of Rs 13.42 crore. This building spans 3703.43 square meters and can accommodate 96 visually impaired female students. The hostel has been specifically designed keeping in mind the convenience and safety of the students. It ensures a better educational environment with assistive features and modern amenities.
Savitribai Phule Senior Citizen Home: For the Elderly
A four-story Savitribai Phule Senior Citizen Home, built at a cost of Rs 10.64 crore in Paschim Vihar, can accommodate 96 elderly individuals. This center offers special provisions for medical facilities, nutritious food, and entertainment for senior citizens. It will provide a safe and comfortable environment for the elderly.
Atal Asha Grih: For Intellectually Disabled Individuals
A four-story Atal Asha Grih has been constructed in Narela over 12,500 square meters at a cost of Rs 40.60 crore. This center will provide accommodation, food, health check-ups, education, sports, and entertainment facilities for 220 intellectually disabled individuals. This initiative is a significant effort to bring self-reliance and dignity into the lives of people from special categories.
During the 'Seva Pakhwada' (Service Fortnight), commencing on Prime Minister Modi's birthday on September 17, 75 new schemes will be launched. This fortnight will continue until Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti. The Chief Minister stated that these centers, built in memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Savitribai Phule, bring new hope for the weaker sections of society.
