An encounter between police and criminals took place in Delhi's Rajouri Garden and Amar Colony, resulting in two criminals being injured and arrested. This week, Delhi Police has taken strict action against criminals through continuous encounters.
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police carried out several encounters this week as part of a major crackdown on criminals in the capital. In the early hours of Monday, encounters took place between police and criminals in the Rajouri Garden and Amar Colony areas, in which both criminals were injured by gunfire. Police arrested them on the spot. These continuous encounters in recent days have created a stir in the criminal underworld.
Criminal Injured in Rajouri Garden Firing
On Monday morning, Delhi Police's Special Team received information that a wanted criminal was hiding in the Rajouri Garden area. When the team cordoned off the area, the accused suddenly started firing. Police also retaliated, firing four rounds.
During the encounter, the accused was shot in the leg and subsequently apprehended. The injured criminal has been admitted to a nearby hospital. According to the police, several serious cases, including robbery, extortion, and kidnapping, are already registered against the accused.
Accused Injured in Police Firing Arrested
On the same day, an encounter also took place between police and a criminal in Amar Colony, South Delhi. The accused was absconding in a case of attempted murder and had been evading police for a long time. Based on intelligence, when the team attempted to apprehend him, he began firing.
Police retaliated with firing and, within minutes, injured and arrested the accused. A .32 bore pistol and several cartridges were recovered from him. Police state that interrogation of the accused is likely to yield information about other criminals associated with the gang.
Police Action in Mehrauli and Badarpur
Over the past two days, Delhi Police has also recorded encounter incidents in the Mehrauli and Badarpur areas. In Mehrauli, four rounds of gunfire were exchanged between police and a criminal on Saturday morning, resulting in the criminal, Vishal alias Kuku Pahadiya, being shot in the leg.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, in another encounter near the Badarpur flyover, accused Himanshu was arrested. He was wanted in a robbery case involving a delivery boy. Police recovered weapons and cartridges from his possession.
Encounters Instill Fear Among Criminals
Delhi Police states that the recent encounters are part of a special operation being conducted to dismantle the network of gangsters and robbers in the capital. Police reported that so far this week, four major encounters have taken place, leading to the arrest of several criminals.
According to the Police Commissioner, “No space will be left for criminals in the capital. Strict action against every gang will continue within the ambit of the law.” This consistent action by the police has both instilled fear among criminals and increased confidence among ordinary citizens.
