Teams in plain clothes will also be active to maintain law and order.
Strict Security Arrangements in Delhi
Extensive preparations have been made regarding security arrangements in the national capital Delhi ahead of Independence Day 2025. Delhi Police and other security agencies have adopted a multi-layered strategy for security this time. No laxity is being tolerated regarding security before and during the Prime Minister's address to the nation from the Red Fort.
Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh has instructed the Special Commissioners of Police for Law and Order and the Deputy Commissioners of Police of the districts to maintain strict vigilance in their respective areas. All concerned officers will remain alert on duty in sensitive areas.
Over 10,000 Security Personnel Deployed
According to Delhi Police, more than 10,000 security personnel have been deployed this time in view of security. This includes officers from Delhi Police, paramilitary forces, commando units, and the Special Branch. All these security personnel have been active on duty for a week in advance so that any potential threat can be averted in advance.
Patrolling by security forces has been increased. A large number of security forces will be present, especially around the Red Fort and other sensitive sites. In addition, additional police force will be deployed at major routes, bus stands, railway stations, and metro stations.
Red Fort to be Monitored with Technology
This time, state-of-the-art technologies are being used in the security arrangements. The police have prepared a High-Tech Surveillance Plan for the security of the Red Fort. Three main technologies will be used prominently in this:
- CCTV Cameras: High-resolution cameras have been installed in and around the Red Fort. The live feed from these cameras is being constantly monitored by officers in the control room.
- Drone Detection System: A special detection system will be active to identify and neutralize any suspicious drone. This will also keep an eye on aerial activities.
- Face Recognition Technology: A face recognition system will be used to identify people entering and leaving the venue. This will make it easier to identify and track suspicious individuals.
Strict Vigilance in Sensitive Areas
Delhi Police has identified areas where extra vigilance is being maintained regarding security. Policemen in plain clothes have also been deployed in these areas who will keep an eye on any suspicious activity. Night patrolling and foot patrolling have been increased so that people have confidence in security.
Special surveillance teams have been deployed in crowded areas, religious places, and markets. Every activity is being closely monitored in these areas.
Social Media Under Surveillance
The cyber unit of Delhi Police is keeping a close watch on any rumors or inflammatory content spreading on social media. Special teams are constantly monitoring Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, YouTube and other platforms.
According to a police officer, the process of immediately identifying and removing any online threat or misinformation has been accelerated. Also, if any post is likely to disrupt the atmosphere, immediate action is being taken on it.
Traffic and Entry to be Controlled on the Day of the Event
Traffic will be controlled in many areas of Delhi on Independence Day. Especially in the areas around the Red Fort, the movement of common people will be limited. Only those people will be allowed entry who have authorized passes.
Metal detectors, baggage scanners and body scanning systems have been installed at all entry and exit points. Also, every person entering and leaving will be checked manually and digitally.
Preparations Started a Week in Advance
Delhi Police and other agencies had started preparations for Independence Day a week in advance. Rehearsals of security forces, review of intelligence inputs, ground checking and testing of technology systems have already been done.
All security personnel have been briefed and trained to deal with potential threats. Control rooms and Quick Response Teams have been deployed in every zone.
