Former United States President Donald Trump has called for the release of eight Iranian women ahead of proposed talks with Iran, raising diplomatic pressure between the two countries.
Trump stated on his social media platform that the women are reportedly facing execution and linked their release to the possibility of improved conditions for dialogue between the United States and Iran. He said that releasing the women could serve as a positive start to peace discussions and help create a conducive environment for negotiations.
In his post, Trump said he would appreciate the release of the women and expressed hope that Iranian leaders would respond to what he described as a humanitarian appeal. He indicated that such a step could contribute to a more positive atmosphere for talks.
Experts cited in reports said the move carries both emotional and strategic elements. By linking the issue to proposed negotiations, Trump has sought to increase international pressure on Iran and establish a position of moral leverage ahead of any potential discussions.
According to media reports, the eight women are detained in Iranian prisons in connection with separate cases involving serious charges. Some are accused of participating in anti-government protests, while others have been prosecuted under strict laws.
The issue is linked to ongoing concerns over women’s rights and broader human rights conditions in Iran, which have been the subject of continued protests. The cases of the eight women have drawn international attention and have now been highlighted by Trump in the context of potential diplomatic engagement.
