Chief Minister Nitish Kumar congratulated Dr. Prem Kumar on becoming Speaker and stated that he possesses vast experience and will fully cooperate in the functioning of the House. The Chief Minister requested the entire House to stand and honor him.
Who is Dr. Prem Kumar?
Dr. Prem Kumar is considered one of the most senior and influential leaders of Bihar BJP. He has been elected as an MLA nine consecutive times from Gaya city. Given his seniority, experience, and b grasp of parliamentary procedures, the NDA chose him for this important position. The 70-year-old Prem Kumar began his political career in 1990.
Since then, he has consistently won elections and has established himself as one of the senior leaders from Bihar's Extremely Backward Class (EBC). He holds a PhD degree from Magadh University.
Experience as Minister and Leader of Opposition
Dr. Prem Kumar served as a minister for more than ten departments during various periods. He first became a minister in Nitish Kumar's government in 2005. Subsequently, he also served as a minister during 2010, 2017–2020, and 2020–2024. In 2015, he was also entrusted with the responsibility of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.
His extensive experience and b command of parliamentary procedures make him the most suitable candidate for the post of Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. Throughout his career, he has always emphasized adherence to the functioning and rules of the House.
Special Workshop for New MLAs
Dr. Prem Kumar also informed that this time, more than 100 new members have been elected to the Legislative Assembly. A special workshop will be organized to familiarize them with the functioning of the House. This training will provide MLAs with information on Question Hour, Zero Hour, starred and unstarred questions, short-notice questions, and other parliamentary procedures.
Dr. Prem Kumar believes that MLAs must learn the art of asking meaningful questions on issues related to their constituencies, districts, and the state. The objective of this is to ensure effective discussions in the House and resolve public problems.
