South and West Receive Direct Entry to Semi-Finals
A special feature of this tournament is that the South Zone and West Zone teams have been given direct entry into the semi-finals. The remaining four zones (North, East, Central, and North East) will face each other in the quarter-finals first. The quarter-final matches will be played from August 28 to August 31. After this, both semi-finals will be held between September 4 and 7, and the title match will be held from September 11 to September 14.
The Duleep Trophy was played between BCCI's selected teams India A, B, C, and D from 2016-17 to 2019-20. In 2022-23, it was changed back to the inter-zonal format, but in 2023, the BCCI once again organized it in the India A-B-C-D format. However, at the BCCI's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in 2024, it was decided that the Duleep Trophy would once again be organized in the zonal format, so that more talent from across the country would be represented and regional cricket would be promoted.
Irani Cup 2025 to be Held in Nagpur
The BCCI has also taken a major decision regarding the Irani Trophy 2025. This year's Irani Cup will be played in Nagpur. Vidarbha, the defending champion of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, will face Rest of India in the Irani Cup. However, the date of this match has not yet been announced. The Irani Cup is seen as a prestigious match played between the Ranji Champion and Rest of India, and it has become an important platform for domestic cricketers for national selection.
