Erdogan Raises Kashmir Issue at UN, Urges India-Pakistan Cooperation Against Terrorism

Turkish President Erdogan once again raised the Kashmir issue at the UN General Assembly. He appealed for cooperation against terrorism from India and Pakistan and welcomed the recent ceasefire. India considers it an internal matter.

UN General Assembly: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan once again raised the Kashmir issue at the United Nations General Assembly. During his address, he stated that India and Pakistan should work together to combat terrorism. Erdogan also said that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved through dialogue based on United Nations (UN) resolutions.

Erdogan clearly stated that the resolution of the Kashmir issue is crucial for stability and peace in South Asia. He also added that he is satisfied with the conflict between India and Pakistan in recent months, followed by a ceasefire.

Call for India-Pakistan Cooperation on Terrorism

President Erdogan emphasized the threat of terrorism in his speech. He stated that it is imperative for two major countries like India and Pakistan to cooperate to eliminate terrorism from the region. According to him, lasting peace cannot be achieved until both neighboring countries choose the path of mutual dialogue and cooperation.

He said, “We hope that the Kashmir dispute will be resolved through dialogue based on United Nations resolutions and in the best interest of our brothers and sisters living in Kashmir.”

Prioritizing Peace and Stability

During the general debate at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Erdogan stated that peace and stability in South Asia are paramount for all. Referring to the tensions between India and Pakistan last April, he said that the ceasefire that followed the conflict is welcome.

He believes that the ceasefire prevented the situation from escalating further at that time. He added that if India and Pakistan continue to move forward with mutual understanding, it would be better for the entire region.

Erdogan Repeatedly Raises Kashmir Issue

This is not the first time Erdogan has raised the Kashmir issue on an international platform. For several years, he has repeatedly brought up this subject at high-level sessions of the United Nations General Assembly. India has often expressed displeasure over his stance, stating that Kashmir is its internal matter and requires no external interference.

Nevertheless, Erdogan continues to try to draw the international community's attention to this issue. He also stated in his address that it is the international community's responsibility to bring India and Pakistan to the path of dialogue for regional peace.

Recent Military Action by India

Erdogan's statements on Kashmir come at a time when India recently took significant action against Pakistan. In response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan-occupied territories.

During this operation, the Indian army destroyed several terrorist bholds. This was followed by four days of intense clashes. Both sides suffered losses in this conflict, but ultimately a ceasefire was announced at Pakistan's appeal.

Situation After Ceasefire

After the ceasefire came into effect, the situation in the border areas began to normalize. Local residents breathed a sigh of relief as continuous shelling had created an atmosphere of fear in the villages. Welcoming the ceasefire, Erdogan stated that such steps would prove helpful in restoring peace.
