Fadnavis Assures Mahayuti Unity Ahead of Maharashtra Local Body Polls

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Wednesday that the Mahayuti alliance is completely united ahead of the upcoming local body elections in the state. He also added that even if a pre-election alliance is not formed, the Mahayuti will certainly come together post-election.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has affirmed the strength of the Mahayuti alliance ahead of the upcoming local body elections. He stated that the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar) will remain together even if a pre-election alliance is not formed. Speaking to reporters in Kolhapur, Fadnavis informed that all Mahayuti leaders will make decisions regarding the alliance at the local level, but the three parties will stick together under all circumstances. 

He said, "The elections have been announced, and we are fully prepared. The public trusts the Mahayuti government, and this alliance will secure a big victory in the upcoming local body elections."

Local Body Elections on December 2

State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare announced on Tuesday that elections for Maharashtra's 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats will be held on December 2. Vote counting will take place on December 3. However, the election schedule for 29 municipal corporations, 32 zilla parishads (district councils), and 336 panchayat samitis (block councils) has not yet been announced.

Fadnavis stated that the Mahayuti's performance at the local level symbolizes trust and development for the public. He also claimed that the alliance is likely to secure a b majority in the election results.

Fadnavis's Reaction to Uddhav Thackeray's Tour

Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) chief and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has commenced a tour of the Marathwada region, where farmers' crops were recently devastated by heavy rains. Regarding this, Fadnavis said, "It's a good thing that he is touring the state. It's the first time Uddhavji has stepped out, and I am happy. However, his tour largely remains confined to sarcasm and criticism. If anyone can show an example of a speech he gave on development, I will give 1000 rupees."

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray criticized the Election Commission, citing irregularities in the voter list and demanding a postponement of the elections. In response, Fadnavis clarified that elections cannot be postponed as per Supreme Court orders. He said, "Raj Thackeray is merely demanding a postponement of the elections. The Election Commission cannot go against the orders of the Supreme Court."

Fadnavis also reiterated that the Mahayuti alliance will remain united during and after the elections, prominently presenting issues of development and public interest to the people. The Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra is a b coalition of BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar). Fadnavis indicated that even if a pre-election alliance is not formed, the three parties will continue their political partnership post-elections.
