Patna: A fifth-grade student studying at Kanya Madhyamik Vidyalaya in Chitkohra, Patna district, Bihar, immolated herself last Wednesday (August 27, 2025), succumbing to severe burns. After the incident, the victim's family and local residents took to the streets in anger, engaging in arson and stone-pelting.
Secretariat SDPO Anu Kumari stated that it is currently under investigation whether the child set herself on fire or if someone else was responsible. Precise facts will emerge only after the report is received. The police and administration have taken action to control the situation following the incident.
Student Dies in School Bathroom Fire
It is reported that the student set herself on fire in the school bathroom and was immediately admitted to PMCH. However, she succumbed to her injuries later that evening. As the child's home is located near the school, anger escalated in the area.
On Wednesday, there was also vandalism at the school, and policemen were attacked. On Thursday, people again took to the streets and resorted to stone-pelting at the police, during which a policeman was seriously injured.
Family Levels Serious Allegations Against Teachers
The family of the deceased student and local residents claim that the child did not set herself on fire, but rather was set ablaze by the school's teachers. They allege that mobile videos were shown in the school and that teachers would call girls to private rooms.
Local residents and the family are demanding strict action and justice. They stated that such incidents occur frequently in the school, and teachers have faced accusations of molestation in the past.

SDPO Anu Kumari said that the investigation is ongoing, and the truth of the incident will only come to light after the report is received. Police deployed a large contingent of forces and brought the situation under control.
