Rail traffic was disrupted on Monday after four wagons of a freight train derailed in the Hilsa railway section of Bihar, affecting the operation of three trains, including one express service. No passengers, railway personnel or local residents were reported injured in the incident, and the railway administration immediately launched restoration and recovery operations.

According to available information, the freight train was travelling on its scheduled route when four of its wagons suddenly derailed. Following the incident, train movement on the affected rail section was suspended to prevent any further accidents. Senior railway officials, engineering teams and technical personnel reached the site and assessed the situation.

The derailment affected the operation of three trains passing through the section, including one express train. Some trains were halted at scheduled stations, while others experienced delays. Railway authorities began making alternative operational arrangements to minimise inconvenience to passengers.

The incident also affected road traffic. Several railway level crossings remained closed to facilitate clearance work and ensure safety, leading to long queues of vehicles on both sides. Traffic congestion persisted at several locations, and local police and administrative authorities deployed additional personnel to regulate vehicular movement.

The railway accident relief team began removing the derailed wagons with the help of cranes and other heavy machinery. Technical inspection of the track is also being carried out to ensure that train services resume only after the route is confirmed to be fully safe.

According to railway officials, the preliminary investigation is focused on determining the cause of the derailment. The track, wheels and other technical aspects will be examined. The exact cause will be established only after the investigation report is completed, including whether the incident resulted from a technical fault, a track-related issue or any other reason.

Passengers have been advised to check the latest status of their trains before travelling, as changes to schedules or delays may continue until restoration work is completed. Railway authorities said efforts are underway to repair the track and restore normal operations on a priority basis.

Relief and repair work is currently in progress. The railway administration said train services will be restored after ensuring compliance with safety standards, while a detailed investigation into the incident continues.
