Google has launched a new AI Mode for Search in India, supporting voice, image, and text input. Based on the Gemini 2.5 model, this feature is available through Search Labs.
Google Search: Google has made another significant leap in technology with the launch of its new AI Mode for the Search platform in India. This is Google’s first international expansion specifically tailored for Indian users. With this new feature, users can now ask questions not just by writing, but also by speaking and through images. The AI Mode is powered by Google’s Gemini 2.5 model and is accessible via Search Labs on both desktop and mobile apps.
What is the New AI Mode?
Google’s new AI Mode goes far beyond traditional text-based search. Users receive AI-generated summaries, visual cards, and precise information alongside search results. Through it, users can gain information not just by asking questions, but also by scanning an image using Google Lens. Voice input has also been added, making searching easier and faster than ever before.
India Becomes First International Test Ground
Google initially rolled out this AI search experience to a limited number of users in the United States in March. Subsequently, it was released to all U.S. users during the May Google I/O event. Now, India has become the first country where this feature has been launched on an international level. Google believes that testing the AI Mode in a diverse country like India will help gain better feedback and understand user behavior.
How to Activate AI Mode?
AI Mode is currently available within Google Search’s Search Labs section. Users must first register in Search Labs. After registering, users can turn on AI Mode in their search settings. Once activated, the feature will appear in a separate section below the search box, called ‘AI Overview.’
This section will now appear on the Google results page before the ‘All’ and ‘News’ sections. This allows users to directly access AI-based answers.
The Power of the Gemini 2.5 Model
Google’s new search experience is based on the Gemini 2.5 Large Language Model, which the company has customized itself. The model’s key feature is its “reasoning capability” – it understands questions and analyzes them, breaking them down into relevant topics to find answers.
This AI Mode utilizes Google’s Query Fan-Out technique, which divides any question into multiple parts and runs separate searches for each part. This results in more detailed and helpful answers.
Experience New Features with Image and Voice
The most interesting aspect of this AI Mode is that it’s not just based on text. Users can now scan any photo using Google Lens to obtain information from it. For example, if a user wants to know about a flower or product, they can simply input its picture into Google Lens, and the AI Mode will analyze it and provide an answer.
Furthermore, users can now ask questions instead of typing them. This makes searching easier for users who are not comfortable writing or who want information quickly.
AI Mode Connected to User History
According to a report by 9to5Google, the feature is being further advanced for U.S. users. Now, AI Mode suggests relevant prompts based on the user’s search history. This means that if a user recently searched for a particular topic, related suggestions will automatically appear the next time.
Google states that as soon as a user visits the ‘Meet AI Mode’ page, whether through the Google app, search widget, or Pixel launcher, the prompts automatically refresh and new information is displayed.
