Following complaints of overheating and battery drain in the Google Pixel 6a, Google is offering users compensation of up to ₹8500 or a free battery replacement, the eligibility for which can be checked on the support page.
Google: If you are using a Google Pixel 6a smartphone, here’s a great opportunity for you. Google has decided to give a big gift to its users. In fact, the company is giving compensation of up to ₹8500 (approximately $100) to some selected Pixel 6a users. This news has also created a buzz on social media, and people want to know why Google is doing this? Will everyone get the money? And most importantly – how do you check if you are eligible or not?
Why is Google giving ₹8500?
For the past few months, there have been continuous complaints of overheating and battery drain regarding the Google Pixel 6a. Many users reported that their phones get hot even without much use, and the battery drains very quickly. Google took these complaints seriously and initiated a Battery Performance Program as a solution.
Under this program:
- Users can take their device to an authorized service center and get the battery replaced for free.
- If the user doesn’t want to get the battery changed, they will be given two options:
- $100 (₹8500) compensation in cash
- $150 (₹12,800) Google Store credit
Since when is this benefit available?
Under this scheme, Google is also rolling out the Android 16 update from July 8, 2025, which will improve the phone’s battery performance and heating issues. At the same time, the battery replacement facility will be available in selected countries from July 21, 2025, including India.
In which countries will this facility be available?
According to Google, this facility will be provided through walk-in repair centers in these 7 countries:
- India
- USA
- Canada
- United Kingdom (UK)
- Germany
- Japan
- Singapore
How to check if you are entitled to compensation?
Google has released a tool on its official support page with the help of which you can check whether you are eligible for compensation or not:
- Go to the Google Support page.
- Click on the 'Check eligibility' or 'Confirm' button.
- Fill in your IMEI number and the email ID linked to the device there.
- After submitting, you will be told on the screen whether you are eligible or not.
How will the payment be received?
The payment process is also completely online and secure. For this, Google has used a third-party service called Payoneer. Some essential documents may be required before payment, such as:
- ID proof (like Aadhaar card, driving license, etc.)
- PAN card (in India)
- Bank details
Google has also clarified that cash payment will not be available in all countries, and only Google Store credit will be given in some places. Also, the cash amount will be determined based on the daily currency exchange rate.
Which users will not get the benefit?
Google has set some clear conditions under which some users may be excluded from this scheme:
- Phones with physical or liquid damage
- Phones with broken screens or other hardware issues
- Out-of-warranty devices, for which the company may charge a service fee for repair
- A b step towards technical improvement
This step by Google proves that the company takes users' problems seriously and is committed to providing them with quick solutions. This is a positive initiative for millions of Pixel 6a users, which will help in improving their device further.
