A 24-hour health control room will begin operations from Wednesday to provide immediate medical assistance to devotees during the Kanwar Mela in Haridwar. The facility has been set up near the fair hospital at the TB Hospital campus and will monitor healthcare services throughout the event while coordinating emergency response.
According to the Health Department, helpline numbers for the control room will be released shortly to enable devotees to seek immediate medical assistance for health-related issues.
The Health Department has completed preparations to establish 33 temporary hospitals along the Kanwar Yatra route. Of these, 27 are government hospitals that will operate in three shifts to provide round-the-clock medical services to devotees.
Nodal Officer Dr. Rajesh Gupta said each temporary hospital will have one doctor and one paramedical staff member. Arrangements have also been made for first aid, essential medicines and ambulance services to ensure prompt treatment whenever required.
The Health Department is also making arrangements for a water ambulance to address medical emergencies at the Ganga ghats and in river areas during the Kanwar Mela. Coordination is being carried out with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for this purpose.
If a devotee falls ill at a Ganga ghat or in the river, the water ambulance will transport the patient to a safe location for treatment. The arrangement is intended to facilitate rescue and medical assistance in water areas.
The Health Department has designated five referral hospitals for the treatment of seriously ill patients during the Kanwar Mela. These are Mela Hospital, Bhumanand Hospital, Patanjali Hospital, Arogyam Hospital and Civil Hospital, Roorkee.
Patients found to be in serious condition at temporary medical camps will be referred immediately to these hospitals, where specialist doctors, advanced medical equipment and treatment facilities will be available.
The Health Department said lakhs of devotees visit Haridwar every year during the Kanwar Mela, making strengthened medical services an administrative priority. The department said all health centres, ambulance services and medical teams will remain on alert throughout the event, and healthcare services will be continuously monitored to ensure timely medical assistance during emergencies.
