Haryana's renowned singer and actor, Meeta Baroda, has survived a life-threatening attack at his under-construction farmhouse. The incident occurred near Baroda village in Sonipat district when Meeta was present at the farmhouse with his friends and relatives. The assailant fired two rounds in the air and attempted to shoot Meeta directly with a third bullet, but fortunately, the gun jammed, averting a major mishap.
Assailant Unleashed a Barrage of Abuse and Gunfire
Police investigation has revealed the attacker to be Manjeet, a resident of Baroda village. It is reported that he suddenly arrived at the farmhouse and started misbehaving with Meeta and the people present, hurling abuses at them. Following this, he fired two shots in the air with his licensed gun, causing chaos and panic. A third shot was aimed directly at Meeta Baroda, but due to a technical malfunction, the bullet did not fire, and he narrowly escaped with his life.
Police are Searching
The Baroda police station has registered an FIR against the accused Manjeet under charges of attempted murder, illegal use of firearms, and other serious offenses. A pistol has been recovered from the scene, while Manjeet has reportedly fled with another weapon. Currently, police teams are engaged in searching for him and a search operation is underway in the surrounding areas.
Apprehension of Political Animosity
In his statement to the police, Meeta Baroda said that he has no personal animosity with Manjeet and is unaware of any specific grudges. However, initial police investigations suggest that the political rivalry that arose during the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections is being considered as a potential cause of the attack.
It is noteworthy that recently, Haryanvi singer Rahul Fazilpuria was also attacked by armed assailants in Gurugram. He had contested the previous assembly elections on a Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) ticket. Following these incidents, concerns regarding the safety and security of artists and politically active figures have deepened.
