The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has announced a historic increase in the minimum wage, providing relief to millions of agricultural and agriculture-based laborers in the state. Now, agricultural laborers in the state will receive ₹252 per day and at least ₹6,552 per month. This decision by the government will provide economic security and dignified livelihoods to workers engaged in traditional farming as well as agriculture-based sectors such as animal husbandry, beekeeping, poultry farming, and mushroom production.
New Rates Applicable to All Agricultural Work
According to Dr. M.K. Shanmuga Sundaram, Principal Secretary of the Labour and Employment Department, these new wage rates will be applicable to all tasks, from traditional farming, harvesting, sowing, packing to transporting produce to the market. Furthermore, the government has ensured that wages are not paid below the stipulated rate, whether it is in cash, in the form of agricultural produce, or through digital means.
Additionally, the hourly wage rate has been fixed at one-sixth of the daily wage, which is approximately ₹42. This will equally benefit short-term and temporary workers. Also, by promoting digital payments, the government aims to ensure transparency and technological inclusion in the rural economy.
Message from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described this decision as a major step towards the welfare of workers. He said that protecting the interests of laborers has always been a priority for his government. New Policy Will Create a Self-Reliant and Prosperous Uttar Pradesh
This decision by the government is not just a change in the wage rate, but a sign of a positive and revolutionary change in the state's labor policy. It realizes the vision of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" (Collective Effort, Inclusive Growth) and will serve as a b foundation in building rural India. The new system will not only increase the income of workers, but will also enable the state to be among the leading states in agriculture and labor welfare in the country.
